Ilona Maher, America's biggest rugby star and "Dancing With the Stars" runner-up, has waltzed herself over to the United Kingdom to play for the Bristol Bears. Maher announced the move on her TikTok account Monday after months of speculation as to whether she might join the Premiership Women's Rugby league. Nearly an inch long and dangling from a butterfly clutch, the pin exchanged hands between Yara ten Holte, a Dutch handball player, and Ilona Maher, the U.S. women’s rugby star, who gleefully flaunted her prize on TikTok. “One thing about the Olympic Village is, trading pins is serious business,” Ms. Maher said last week in a post that was viewed more than 2.7 million times. “We don’t mess around trading pins, OK?”Trading in pins — those tiny, shiny emblems made by sports delegations, federations, countries and the media outlets covering them — is a longstanding tradition at the Olympics. CNN —When England’s women first played at Twickenham in 2003, the crowd was scattered about the vast stadium, almost imperceptible in the pictures taken that day. Twenty years later, in the latest historic occasion for women’s rugby, a world record crowd of 58,498 supporters watched England win the Women’s Six Nations by defeating France 38-33 in a thrilling finale at Twickenham, the home of English rugby union. CNN —Iran’s football authorities have vowed to deal with beach soccer players who showed solidarity with Iranian protesters during an international tournament this week. It follows the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who died in police custody after her arrest for allegedly wearing her hijab improperly. Before the final game started, the Iranian players were seen not singing as the country’s national anthem was played. “People who have not followed professional and sports ethics … will be dealt with according to the regulations,” a statement published by Iran’s Football Federation said. Last month, Elnaz Rekabi, 33, competed without a hijab during the International Federation of Sport Climbing’s Asian Championships in Seoul.
