New York CNN —Donald Trump can’t quit Fox News. Comparatively, Trump posted 26 video clips from the upstart internet streamer Right Side Broadcasting Network, 11 videos from the pro-Trump cable channel Newsmax, and 5 from the far-right Real America’s Voice. He posted eight links to Real America’s Voice, only three to Breitbart, and one to the New York Post. Indeed, Polskin’s analysis pulls back the curtain on how Trump works the media. The warped feedback loop is yet another way in which he exploits the media for his own ends.

New York CNN —Ticketmaster is linking arms with right-wing extremists, boosting their ability to reach mainstream audiences and profiting off their dangerous and hateful rhetoric ahead of the November election. That is because there is not a morsel of truth to how Ticketmaster is presenting Carlson to its customers. How can any decent person not only participate in enabling Carlson’s poisoning of the public discourse but also justify profiting off of his hateful rhetoric in the process? CNN also posed questions to the venues hosting Carlson, which include the Honda Center, T-Mobile Center, Delta Center, Dickies Arena, Intrust Bank Arena and others. Those uncomfortable decisions risk catapulting them squarely into the center of the information wars, where grifters like Carlson thrive.

CNN —Four Fox Corporation board members have been subpoenaed in voting technology company Smartmatic’s $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News over its airing of 2020 election lies, alleging executives at the right-wing cable channel’s parent company knew it was spreading false claims. In a court filing Monday, Smartmatic subpoenaed the four board members — Anne Dias, Charles Carey, Roland Hernandez, Jacques Nasser — over Fox News’s repeated airing of bogus conspiracy theories that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump. “Smartmatic plans to pursue Fox’s board members as well to determine why they allowed the company’s most valuable asset, Fox News, to spread disinformation about the 2020 election.”New York Judge David Cohen had previously ordered Fox Corporation to turn over documents related to the board members in the case. Rupert Murdoch, the right-wing media mogul who founded Fox Corporation, the parent company of Fox News, was also deposed late last year. Fox News has previously denied defaming anyone and claimed that Smartmatic’s lawsuit is an assault on the First Amendment.

New York CNN —Donald Trump just defeated Rupert Murdoch (again). That’s an outcome that Murdoch, the billionaire media mogul and one-time Republican kingmaker who controls Fox News, had hoped to avoid. CNN —Rupert Murdoch is set to be deposed on Tuesday in voting technology company Smartmatic’s mammoth $2.7 billion election defamation lawsuit against Fox News, a person familiar with the matter told CNN. Murdoch founded Fox News and served as executive chairman of Fox Corporation, Fox News’ parent company, until earlier this month, when the 92-year-old media baron transitioned to chairman emeritus, crowning his son Lachlan as king of his media empire. A spokesperson for Fox Corporation declined to comment, though the company has consistently said it plans to vigorously fight the lawsuit. Smartmatic filed its lawsuit against Fox Corporation in 2021 after it was swept up in baseless conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. In April, Fox Corporation reached a historic $787 million settlement in a similar election lies case filed by another voting technology company, Dominion Voting Systems.

Such reassurances are also belied by the language Mr. Netanyahu uses with audiences in Israel. “Gaza nakba 2023.”The rise in incendiary statements comes against a backdrop of rising violence in the West Bank. It will also make Israelis more inured to the civilian death toll in Gaza, which has isolated Israel around the world, he added.

CNN —Lachlan Murdoch is stepping onto center stage. On Wednesday, his father, Rupert Murdoch, officially stepped down as chairman of News Corporation, the print publishing arm of the billionaire mogul’s powerful media empire, marking the end of an era. In his final remarks on Wednesday to the News Corporation board as chairman, Murdoch hit on a number of topics. His profile rose when he took on the role of executive chairman in 2015 at what was then 21st Century Fox. There would be a referendum within his first term to recognize Indigenous Australians in the constitution and create a permanent body – a Voice to Parliament – to allow them to speak directly to government. Yes voters are much younger, live in the inner-city and voted for the Labor Party or Greens. Paul Smith, Director Government and Social Australia, at YouGov says the young-old divide in this referendum indicates a generational difference in world view. A right-wing TV host in France linked the Paris' bedbug outbreak to immigrants. A government minister called Praud's comments on CNews, likened to Fox News, as "hate speech." AdvertisementAdvertisementA right-wing pundit in France is under investigation by Arcom, the country's audiovisual regulator, for making "racist" comments about the current bedbug infestation in Paris, The Times reports. Pascal Praud, a TV host on right-wing channel CNews, asked Nicolas Roux de Bezieux, the founder of a pest control firm, whether immigrants had caused the onslaught of bedbugs. David Belliard, Paris' Deputy Mayor, called the comments "stupid and racist," and added that CNews' views could be summarized in the clip.

The former White House press secretary turned MSNBC personality will begin hosting the network’s Monday 8pm ET hour starting on September 25. Psaki has hosted “Inside with Jen Psaki” on Sundays at 12pm ET since the spring of this year, frequently becoming the top-rated cable news show in the timeslot. The shared hour of prime time is not the first for MSNBC. In June, MSNBC also dethroned Fox News in the ratings, snapping the right-wing channel’s 120-week winning streak in prime time. Psaki joined MSNBC from the Biden White House in May 2022 as a political analyst.

What do you think it means?” MacCallum asked in the opening question of the evening. The first question wasn’t about former Republican President Donald Trump, indicted four times, about to face arraignment in Georgia in less than 24 hours. And even when Baier and MacCallum confronted the candidates with some of their more strenuous questions, they themselves appeared to do so reluctantly. Take the issue of Trump, a topic that went noticeably unaddressed for nearly the first hour of the debate. Of course, it is clear why Fox News preferred to avoid the topic of Trump.

The viewership data, provided by Nielsen Media Research, indicated that 11.1 million viewers tuned into the flagship Fox News for the debate, with 1.7 million watching on sister channel Fox Business. It’s likely that if Trump were to have appeared at the debate, the ratings would have been even higher. His July town hall on Fox News hosted by the right-wing propagandist Sean Hannity averaged only 2.9 million viewers. During the 11 p.m. hour, the program averaged 4.4 million viewers and 886,000 viewers in the 25-54 demographic. If newsrooms somehow didn’t comprehend what Fox News really was before that explosive lawsuit, there isn’t an excuse now. Most outlets still haven’t worked up the courage to describe Fox News as a “right-wing channel.” The WaPo on Tuesday didn’t even refer to the outlet’s prime time bloc of Donald Trump propagandists in such terms. It should not be difficult or controversial to describe Fox News as right-wing. The channel has evolved in disturbing ways, having morphed from a traditionally conservative news network into a MAGA propaganda monster. At this point, failing to point out this unsightly reality might just say more about those media outlets than Fox News itself.

CNN —One of Fox News’ top hosts said that many of the world’s problems would be solved if women were to vanish from the planet. As surveillance video played showing a smash-and-grab that occurred over the weekend at a Los Angeles Nordstrom, Gutfeld went on a rant portraying women as soft on crime and effectively blaming the entire gender for supposed policies that would prevent such crimes from being committed. “What would happen if all the women took a ladies week off and they went to Venus … How many of these problems would still exist?” Gutfeld wondered aloud. “I know this is offensive to the judge because she thinks like a dude,” Gutfeld joked. Meanwhile, 83% of Fox News-watching respondents believe that after the 2020 election, Trump “was just exercising his right to contest the” results. And, perhaps most importantly, 85% of Republican-leaning poll participants who primarily watch Fox News say the GOP needs to “stand behind” Trump. The remarkable data underscores the grip that Trump continues to exert over the influential right-wing network’s audience. Even as he faces mounting legal problems, including potential charges stemming from his post-2020 election actions, Trump still commands the loyalty of the Fox News audience. “But,” Sargent wrote, “the role of Fox News and right-wing media in this disaster for democracy seems painfully clear.”
