CNN —The WNBA is returning to Portland, Oregon, starting in 2026. The new expansion franchise will play its home games at the Moda Center in downtown Portland and become the WNBA’s 15th team, the league announced Wednesday. “As the WNBA builds on a season of unprecedented growth, bringing a team back to Portland is another important step forward,” WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a statement. The city previously had a WNBA team – the Portland Fire – from 2000-2002 before it folded. “Portland has a passion for women’s sports and the teams who play in the Rose City, making us the ideal home of the next WNBA team,” Oregon governor Tina Kotek said in a statement.

And while Trump tried to tie Harris to President Joe Biden, he learned that she is a much tougher rival. While Trump tried to re-create the conditions of June’s fateful debate stage matchup, Harris reminded him, “You’re not running against Joe Biden. Harris tried to get under Trump’s skin, baiting him into a defensive posture that prevented him from attacking her weaknesses. And when Trump scolded Harris’ attempt to interrupt him, some allies lamented that he lost control at a key moment. Three Republican sources told NBC News after the debate that Trump came off as “angry” in that moment.

As Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign rushes to shore up its base, its efforts will be bolstered by a ready-made coalition: the more than two million members of Black Greek-letter organizations who have quickly united to mobilize Black voters nationwide. Before Ms. Harris had even hosted her first official campaign event as the de facto Democratic nominee, the heads of the “Divine Nine,” the country’s nine most prominent Black sororities and fraternities, were planning a giant voter organization effort. When President Biden announced on Sunday that he was stepping aside and endorsing Ms. Harris, excitement over her ascent spread swiftly among these groups’ members in group chats, Facebook groups and conference calls. After all, Ms. Harris, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha since her undergraduate days at Howard University, is one of them. Once Ms. Harris ran for president, in 2020, she said, that changed.

Major League Pickleball is requesting that players consent to compensation reductions of 40% in return for a reduction of work obligations, according an email sent to players that was obtained by CNBC. It comes as professional pickleball has seen rapid growth in nearly every category and as Major League Pickleball and Professional Pickleball Association are on the cusp of signing an on-again, off-again, on-again merger agreement. The MLP email notes the PPA has also been communicating with its players and has made similar requests for player compensation reductions. Reactions have been mixed among professional pickleball players. Two-time Major League Pickleball champion Thomas Wilson, however, said players are paid "more than fairly even with the cuts."

CNN —It’s already a vital American truth that Dolly Parton is a national treasure, and has been for decades. From there, Parton saw a challenge to become a rockstar in her own right, and after her husband suggested she do a rock album, she embarked on the journey, culminating with Friday’s release of her appropriately titled forty-ninth (!!) Cover of "Rockstar" by Dolly Parton. Butterfly Records/APThe second track is also an original song, “World on Fire,” which dutifully tries to ruffle some feathers (like a rockstar would) by commenting on the state of the world today. The stock market is having an oversized influence on how investors think about the economy. "Late in the cycle when the data is conflicting, sentiment can be influenced by stock prices more than usual. The recession narrative has swung back and forth between hard landing, soft landing, and no landing at all, and the ongoing stock market rally has reinforced some of the more bullish views of the economy. Wilson recommended investors focus on owning defensive growth stocks, particularly industrial stocks relative to consumer discretionary stocks.

Dividend stocks have long been a favorite of BMO's since their yields offer protection against heightened market volatility. And to have sufficient dividend growth and yield, companies must have a higher dividend yield than the S&P 500's, and it must be growing at a faster rate than the market's yield. Additional qualifications include having a below-market dividend payout ratio, a free cash flow yield higher than its dividend yield, and no dividend cuts in the prior five years, according to the note. "By focusing solely on high current dividend yield investors could be missing potential recovery and/or dividend growth opportunities." After outlining its barbell strategy and methodology, BMO listed eight stocks in each group that fit those descriptions and are worth considering.

NEW YORK, June 25 (Reuters) - Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner was named a WNBA All-Star for the ninth time on Sunday, just a little over six months after being released from a Russian prison. Griner warned during the preseason that she would need time to regain her full abilities after the 10 months she spent in Russian custody but has blown away her own expectations and was ninth in the league in average points per game as of Sunday. Twice MVP A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces and 2018 MVP Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty were named the captains for the All-Star Game, which is set for July 15 in Las Vegas. The Indiana Fever's Aliyah Boston, who went first overall in the 2023 draft, became the first rookie since 2014 to earn an All-Star selection. Some experts think they will kickstart a new bull market in stocks. He says investors should be cautious and de-emphasize tech stocks until the market finds a new low. "Bank stocks are leading indicators, and we would be hard pressed to find a new bull market where they were underperforming," as they are now, he wrote. The right time to invest more heavily in tech stocks will be after a clear long-term low has been established. "We see little evidence that a new bull market has begun and believe the bear still has unfinished business."

Stocks have risen as investors conclude that authorities will prevent a bank crisis from spreading. He says that tighter credit conditions and the economy will weaken, and stocks look expensive. While bank stocks are still down, the rest of the market is collectively higher since the crisis started. But even if that's true, Morgan Stanley says investors are far too optimistic right now. In short, Wilson wrote that investors who see conditions in markets right now as positive for stocks, especially for tech, are making a mistake.
