"For me, pension reform is the way to unlock growth in the U.K.," Lee told "Squawk Box Europe." LONDON (AP) — Prince William visited his wife Kate Thursday in a London hospital, where she is recovering after abdominal surgery. Royal officials announced Wednesday that Kate had had surgery and was expected to remain in the private London Clinic for 10 to 14 days. Though she has generally experienced good health, Kate was hospitalized while pregnant because of severe morning sickness. Charles is head of state, and Kate is destined to be queen when William succeeds his father to the throne. The publicity around the king’s surgery is seen as an opportunity to encourage other men to have their prostates checked in line with public health advice.

Robert Menendez’s education in political corruption came unusually early. In 1982, he turned against his mentor, Mayor William V. Musto of Union City, N.J., the popular leader of their gritty hometown. Mr. Menendez took the witness stand and testified that city officials had pocketed kickbacks on construction projects, helping to put a man many considered his father figure behind bars. Mr. Menendez, then 28, wore a bulletproof vest for a month. The son of Cuban immigrants, Mr. Menendez broke barriers for Latinos and has used his perch as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to influence presidents and prime ministers.

He now lives in Bergen County with his wife of three years, Nadine Menendez. They met years ago at one of his favorite haunts, an IHOP in Union City, a city he has represented as mayor and in the State Legislature and the House of Representatives before being elected to the Senate. Mr. Menendez has been preparing to run for a fourth Senate term, and there are no indications that the indictment will change that plan. As a young man, he wore a bulletproof vest into federal court to testify against a onetime mentor, William V. Musto, then the mayor of Union City. Mr. Musto was convicted of taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in kickbacks from a contractor hired to build schools.

The first five minutes of a job interview can make or break your odds of landing an offer. Some interviewers might even ask you to stand up during a video call, to check that you're wearing professional attire. Do your homeworkMost people will do basic research on the job they're interviewing for, but few will go the extra mile and become knowledgeable about the company's latest developments or the person they're speaking with. Vanderbloemen says he's "always impressed" when a candidate has done their homework about the recruiter or interviewer and is up to date on the company's latest news. "If you can show the interviewer in the first 5-10 minutes of the conversation that you invested some time studying this company, you're going to go a long way," says Vanderbloemen.

A job interview doesn't start when the first question is asked — as soon as you walk in the door, your behavior is judged. "Punctuality is the first test of whether or not you're taking this job seriously and can be trusted with the responsibilities of the role," he explains. Arriving too early for a job interview can also be risky. The best time to show up for a job interview is five minutes before the scheduled start time, he says. Armed attack kills 10 in Ecuador port Guayaquil
  + stars: | 2023-04-30 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
April 30 (Reuters) - An armed attack has killed 10 people in the Ecuadorean port city of Guayaquil, the public prosecutor's office of Ecuador and police reported on Sunday. Three people were wounded, including a 5-year-old girl, police said on Sunday. A rifle and 9-millimeter caliber guns were found at the scene, the Ecuadorean Prosecutor's Office posted on its Twitter account. "We believe that this has to do with a struggle between organized criminal groups over the fight for territorial control," National Police Commander William Villaroel told a news conference. The Ecuadorean government declared a state of emergency in early April in Guayaquil and surrounding areas in an effort to curb surging violence in the Pacific port city.
Shortly after the accident in Spring, Texas, local police said they believed the crash occurred with no one in the driver's seat, raising questions about Tesla's driver-assistance systems and prompting widespread media coverage. In October 2021, the NTSB said both the driver and passenger seats were occupied during the crash. The NTSB said "footage from the owner’s home security camera shows the owner entering the car’s driver’s seat and the passenger entering the front passenger seat." This evidence indicated that TACC was not engaged during the crash trip." The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which regulates vehicle safety and is also investigating the incident, did not immediately comment.
Supply chain problems dogged producers like Calder through the pandemic. At the peak of the crisis a year ago, manufacturers faced shortages of everything from steel and aluminum to computer chips and plastic resins. A recent survey of 179 companies by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers found 98% said they faced continued supply chain problems. Another gauge, the New York Fed’s Global Supply Chain Pressure Index, edged higher in October and November - reversing some of the loosening of global supply bottlenecks seen through most of the past year. "But a lot of that has been delayed," he said, by supply chain delays.
