“If we’re going to put up affordable housing, we don’t just want to house one family. We want to house five or six or eight or 25 families,” said Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who has overseen the Minneapolis 2040 plan. Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt blamed the higher housing costs on the current administration’s policies, as well as an “unsustainable invasion of illegal aliens.” The campaign broadly said Trump’s housing plan involves freeing up federal land for housing and cutting regulations. Walz, whom Frey said was “committed to the mission” on affordable housing, signed the measure into law in May. We also need to have more active state, local and federal government policies that look to support the housing market.”

To scale up, he's used the BRRRR method and 1031 exchanges. One example of how Nunez has used the BRRRR method involves a property in Long Beach, California that he bought in 2015. For the 1031 exchange approach, Nunez did the same thing: he fixed up properties, forcing appreciation in them. To allow him keep all of the value he'd built up and not get taxed on it, Nunez used a 1031 exchange and bought other properties. When he believes he's maxed out a properties appreciation, he uses a 1031 exchange as opposed to a cash-out refinance.

But a faltering gross domestic product isn't the only figure that suggests that the German economy is stuttering. Germany's inflation rate is expected to hit 6.4% for June, according to provisional data from the German statistics office, which is an increase from the 6.1% recorded for May. Expect maybe for the second half that inflation might come down to a certain extent," Joachim Nagel, president of Germany's central bank, the Bundesbank, told CNBC in March. "What the fiscal authority can do in the face of high inflation is to alleviate the pain of inflation on the most fragile citizens," he said. The German economy has already recouped half of the losses in terms of trade incurred over the last two years and the energy crisis," he added.

Johanna Ruf was a nurse in the Berlin bunker where Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler spent his final days. In 2017, she published her memoir on her time in the bunker as the Red Army advanced in 1945. Ruf died at 94, the Berliner Zeitung reported, citing confirmation from her publisher. The Berliner Zeitung reported that Ruf was also one of the last people to see Goebbels' children before they were murdered by their parents in the bunker. Wieland Giebel, who edited Ruf's book, said that he hoped it provided an insight into what really happened at the time, per Berliner Zeitung.

"I certainly think orcas are capable of complex emotions," Monika Wieland Shields, director of the Orca Behavior Institute told Insider. And yet, these situations haven't resulted in wild orcas attacking boats, Shields said. Orcas in captivity have attacked and killed humans, but there are no records of orcas killing humans in the wild. The orcas are trying to playAccording to Shields, orcas' natural curiosity and playfulness are likely the cause for these encounters and not revenge. According to Trites, orcas might simply enjoy the sensation of ramming into boats.

Orcas keep attacking sailboats off the coasts of Portugal, Spain, and Morocco. One sailor shared his encounter with killer whales, after a pod of orcas sank a boat last year. Orca attacks have sometimes immobilized sailboats, but local media said that, in this instance, it caused so much damage that the vessel started to sink. The passengers, who were sleeping at the time of the attack, were traveling from Lisbon to the Algarve, per the local media outlet Portugal Resident. And that number comes from a collaboration of scientists collecting reports, not from local media outlets.
Elite money managers overseeing trillions of dollars convened at the 2023 Milken Global Conference in Los Angeles this week. The consensus was clear: they think markets are mispositioned for a scenario where the central bank keeps rates higher for longer. "As our chief economist likes to say," Hunt said, "at higher rates, bodies will continue to float to the top over the course of the summer." And with yet another Fed rate hike officially in the books, financial conditions are only going to get tighter and more companies could be caught off-guard. On Wednesday, West Texas crude dropped more than 4.4%, the steep declines coming the same day as the Fed's rate hike.
Dave Wieland's wealth-management firm Realized works primarily with older real-estate investors who are ready to cash out of the properties they've owned for decades. The portfolio values of his clients differ — some are worth a couple million, while some total $15 million, Wieland said. But the common thread between all of them is that they're mom-and-pop, individual investors who work normal jobs: plumbers, used car salesmen, lawyers. Many of them have also used the same strategy over the years to scale up their portfolios, Wieland said. Work, work, work.

He wanted Russians to wake up to the war, he told Norwegian outlet Nettavisen. On Friday night at around 2.30 a.m. local time, Kjetil Krane carried a loudspeaker out to an apartment block known to house workers at Oslo's Russian embassy, Nettavisen reported. In a video shared by Nettavisen, Krane can be seen wearing a T-shirt that says "wake a Russian" in Norwegian as a newly-awoken resident peers out of a window.

Berlin, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Activists protesting against Russia's invasion of Ukraine parked a destroyed, rusty tank directly in front of the Russian embassy in Berlin on Friday, bringing a piece of the battlefield to the centre of the German capital. The Russian embassy was not available for comment. They said it was transferred to Germany with the help of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry and the Ukrainian National Museum of Military History. The district office of Berlin's Mitte borough rejected Lenze's and Giebel's application to display the tank last year, citing concerns including road safety. The tank will subsequently tour through Europe and may end up in a German tank museum.

The shift to remote work fueled 60% of the pandemic-era home price rally, a new Fed study found. For every percentage point that remote work increased, home values rose 0.9 points, the researchers found. Remote work increased to 16 percentage points from November 2019 to November 2021, according to the study. That implies that remote work alone lifted home prices 15% over that period, and accounted for more than 60% of the overall increase in home values. "This is especially true when we look at the geographical implications of remote work.
