A jury ordered former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger to pay $98 million after finding that she used excessive force in the fatal shooting of Botham Jean in his home six years ago. The jury found that Guyger acted with "malice, willfulness, or callous and reckless indifference" to Jean's safety and rights and awarded his family $60 million in punitive damages, a verdict form shows. The jury awarded an additional $38 million in compensatory damages for mental anguish, loss of earnings and other claims, the document shows. Jean’s family had sought $54 million in damages, according to NBC Dallas Fort-Worth. Sammie L. NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana’s plan to make all of the state’s public school classrooms post the Ten Commandments next year remains on hold under an order Wednesday by a federal appeals court in New Orleans. The state contends that deGravelles’ order affects only the five school districts that are defendants in a legal challenge. Jeff Landry signed the bill into law in June, prompting a group of Louisiana public school parents of different faiths to sue. Murrill, the Republican attorney general, has said she disagreed with deGravelles’ ruling and that the law is constitutional under Supreme Court precedents. In recent years, similar bills requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in classrooms have been proposed in states including Texas, Oklahoma and Utah.

“The Simpsons” is saying goodbye to the voice behind some of its most iconic characters. Pamela Hayden, who voiced Milhouse Van Houten and a slew of other characters, announced she is retiring from the show after 35 years. “The time has come for me to hang up my microphone, but how do I say goodbye to The Simpsons?” Hayden said in a news release. “We named him Milhouse because that was the most unfortunate name a kid could have,” Groening said in a statement. “People come up to me and they quote Milhouse lines,” Hayden said in a video FOX shared Wednesday to commemorate her roles.
