@rickrudescalves hid the post within a week of publishing it, but the couch joke had already left an impression. AdvertisementOver the past week, for every seven people searching Google for "JD Vance," one person has searched "JD Vance couch," according to Google Trends. AdvertisementBusiness Insider tracked down the post's author, who we'll call Rick, in keeping with his former X screen name, @rickrudescalves. Rick is not the first person to post an absurd joke that ended up roiling political circles after flying over too many heads. As for his decision to include a fake citation in a tweet about a man having sex with a couch, Rick claims highbrow inspiration.

Season 4, Episode 6: Part 6One of the tricky parts of a ghost story like “True Detective: Night Country” is the banal, inevitable business of having to explain events that were once teasingly inexplicable. This is the risk the creator Issa López has courted all season, as the show’s procedural elements have been intermingled with obscure symbols, hidden traumas and outright ghostly hallucinations. In order to solve the practical mysteries facing Danvers and Navarro, it would have to come crashing back to earth. Yet the achievement of this flawed but compelling finale is that López succeeds in having her cake and eating it, too. From the beginning, the strongest element of “Night Country” has been its evocation of Ennis, Alaska, as this northernmost outpost of humanity, a border town to oblivion.

"Sue Bird: In the Clutch," a documentary on the career and personal life of the WNBA star, wasn't the most buzzed-about film at Sundance. Nike's success could encourage more brands to follow its leadNike has long been a big player in brand-funded films. Many brands dream of getting their films on Netflix, where even relatively small viewership numbers are bigger than they'd get on a rival streamer. Brands often work alongside traditional Hollywood players, which lends credibility to film projects. But the more films like "In the Clutch" get wide distribution, the more other brands could be encouraged to pursue similar storytelling.

Werner Herzog is renowned for his strange and novel filmmaking—and for the lengths to which he’ll go to get a shot. In “Fitzcarraldo,” his 1982 film about an opera-loving madman who hauls a steamship over a mountain in pursuit of rubber in the Amazonian jungle, Herzog had his crew haul an actual 320-ton boat on pulleys over a muddy mountain in the Amazon, even though a Brazilian engineer quit after warning that it was too dangerous. “I swear to God it’s not a special effect,” says Herzog, who disdains them. “Audiences can tell right away.”

Werner Herzog, acclaimed German director, narrated an audiobook of AI-generated poetry. The book was a collaboration between childhood friends Brent Katz, Josh Morgenthau, and Simon Rich who reconnected with Dan Selsam, another childhood friend and current OpenAI scientist, at a wedding, Katz told Insider over email. The resulting collection of dozens of poems released on August 1 is told from the AI's own perspective. After the book's publisher made contact with Herzog, Katz managed to connect with him directly over email. "On one performance (I forget the poem), he was so happy with his first take that he said, 'And in fact, I refuse to do it again,'" Katz told Insider of directing Herzog during recording.

If artificial intelligence had a voice, what would it sound like? Calm, like HAL 9000? For the editors of “I Am Code: An Artificial Intelligence Speaks,” a collection of poems generated by A.I., the answer was obvious: Werner Herzog. The 80-year-old German director, actor and author is a titan of independent cinema whose films often concern the hubris and folly of humankind. His speaking voice, known to audiences mostly through the stark, literary voice-over narration that accompanies many of his documentaries, carries an existential pathos and Teutonic gravitas that have made it a pop culture trademark.

First published in 1982 with the straightforward subtitle “A Life of Contemporary Artist Robert Irwin,” this is in fact so much more. Yes, Weschler explores Irwin’s early years with the California Abstract Expressionist school, and his move into spatial experimentation. You’ll come away with solid knowledge of the 20th-century art world. In Irwin’s own words: “For the next week, try the best you can to pay attention to sounds. Once you let them in, you’ve already done the first and most critical thing, you’ve honored that information by including it.

said Marc Gilbar, who runs the brand division at Imagine Entertainment. Some are also looking to brand films to offset some of the revenue they're losing in the dual Hollywood strikes. (Brand films are often unscripted and thus aren't governed by the Hollywood unions.) They also see brand work being a positive for below-the-line workers who are idled by the work stoppage. Led by EVP Kate Oppenheim, Tribeca Studios' projects have included "We Could be King" (ESPN2) for Dick's Sporting Goods and P&G's Queen Collective series (BET).
