Today, he is best associated with Tintagel Castle, where remains of a settlement dating back to the fifth century perch strikingly on an islet off the wild coast of Cornwall. Bettmann Archive/Getty ImagesFor Stoyle, it’s likely that the myth of Arthur has at least its roots in fact. This Arthur was played by Clive Owen in the 2004 film, “King Arthur,” alongside Keira Knightley as Guinevere. The sixth-century “Artognou stone," discovered in 1998, has linked Tintagel with King Arthur for some scholars, though others dismiss it. Of course, medieval history writers were fast and loose with the facts.

The cheese, worth over $390,000, was taken from London cheese specialist Neal’s Yard Dairy on Oct. 21, the company said in an Instagram post. Three cheeses from three different suppliers were stolen: Hafod Welsh organic cheddar, Westcombe cheddar, and Pitchfork cheddar. Neal's Yard Dairy said that "despite the significant financial blow," they've paid each of their artisan cheesemakers in full for their products. Oliver said that as the world’s most consumed cheese type, a cheddar theft affects exports to 20 different countries. The whereabouts of the stolen cheese have yet to be determined.

British chef Jamie Oliver is on the case of the stolen cheddar. But there are only a small number of real British cheddar makers, Oliver said. The cheeses were from three makers: Hafod Welsh organic cheddar, Westcombe cheddar, and Pitchfork cheddar. Neal’s Yard Dairy, a distributor, wholesaler, and retailer of British artisanal cheese, has asked international cheesemongers to be on the lookout for the stolen cheese, particularly in 10-kilogram (22-pound) and 24-kilogram (52-pound) blocks. “If anyone hears anything about posh cheese going for cheap, it’s probably some wrong’uns,” Oliver said.

Artificial intelligence is expected to transform the way companies do business, including those in financial planning and investment management. That means financial advisors need to get onboard or risk being left behind. Of course, financial advisors have been using some technology, like financial planning software, for years. Violence broke out in several towns and cities across the country after three young girls were killed in a knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party in the seaside town of Southport in northwest England last week. Amid false rumors that the suspect was a Muslim asylum seeker, mobs have since attacked hotels housing asylum seekers, as well as mosques, leading to hundreds of arrests. The suspect Axel Rudakubana, 17, was born in the Welsh capital of Cardiff and had lived for years in a village near Southport itself, police saidMusk's remarks were quickly rebuffed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office, which said in a statement that such comments had “no justification.”In a separate video message posted to X, Starmer said: “Whatever the apparent motivation, this is not protest. This month, he said he was pulling his businesses out of California to protest a new state law that bars schools from requiring that trans kids be outed to their parents. The U.K. riots have become one of the first major challenges for Starmer, whose center-left Labour Party took power last month in a landslide election victory, ousting the Conservative Party, who after 14 years in government left office without dispute.

CNN —A large, pink, inflatable man, created by the Chinese contemporary artist Yue Minjun, has divided opinion in a small town in Wales. “The image represents the boredom of Chinese society during the rise of consumerism and economic reform in the early 1990s,” the centuries-old Ruthin School said in a post on Facebook. Yue’s work, in particular his many grinning self-portraits, have become among the most recognizable pieces of Chinese contemporary art. She said the school’s students “love it” are “really quite fond” of the large inflatable man. Vaughan Gething, the first minister of Wales, announced his resignation on Tuesday after less than four months in the region’s top job, amid a controversy over campaign donations that prompted a vote of no confidence in his leadership. Mr. Gething, a Labour Party politician who became the first Black person to lead a national government in Europe when he became the head of the Welsh Parliament, known as the Senedd, in March, denied any wrongdoing as he announced in a written statement that he was stepping down. “A growing assertion that some kind of wrongdoing has taken place has been pernicious, politically motivated and patently untrue,” Mr. Gething wrote, adding that in his 11 years as a lawmaker, he had “never ever made a decision for personal gain.”Wales, like Scotland and Northern Ireland, is part of the United Kingdom but also has its own devolved government, which makes local laws and enacts national legislation and policies. Mr. Gething became the first minister after the resignation of a long-serving predecessor, Mark Drakeford, winning a tight leadership election within the governing Labour Party.

First Minister of Wales Vaughan Gething gives a speech during King Charles III and Queen Camilla visit to the Senedd in Cardiff, to mark its 25th anniversary on July 11, 2024 in Cardiff, Wales. Vaughan Gething said on Tuesday he would step down as first minister of Wales, after four ministers resigned from the devolved Welsh government in protest over his leadership. "Having been elected as leader of my party in March, I had hoped that over the summer a period of reflection, rebuilding and renewal could take place under my leadership," Gething said in a statement. Four Welsh ministers - Counsel General Mick Antoniw, housing minister Julie James, economy and energy secretary Jeremy Miles and culture minister Lesley Griffiths resigned earlier in the day. Gething has been criticized over the source of a political donation, the transparency of his disclosures to the COVID-19 inquiry from his time as health minister, and his decision to dismiss a minister after accusing her of leaking to the media.

CNN —Britain’s King Charles III and Queen Camilla are heading down under in the fall. The forthcoming visit to Australia will be the 75-year-old British monarch’s first trip to a Commonwealth realm since he ascended the throne. In addition to the United Kingdom, Charles is also head of state in 14 realms including Australia, New Zealand and Canada, though his role is largely ceremonial. “Their majesties’ state visit to Samoa will celebrate the strong bilateral relationship between the Pacific Island nation and the UK,” the palace added. Charles’ visit to Australia will be a key test of his popularity as head of state.
