U.S. health officials are preparing to screen passengers flying in from Rwanda for symptoms of Marburg virus, a severe infection similar to Ebola. People infected by the virus can start showing symptoms two to 21 days after their exposure, according to the CDC. Marburg is a virus that causes hemorrhagic fevers and internal bleeding, much like Ebola. His lawyer filed a motion this week arguing that Mr. Jones might not be mentally fit to stand trial. The affidavit said that Mr. Jones, a passenger in seat 6E, tried three times to go to the front of the plane and “open the aircraft’s cockpit door.” Flight attendants asked for assistance from off-duty law enforcement officers, who restrained Mr. Jones in flex cuffs and sat on either side of him for the rest of the flight.

CNN —United Airlines said it will resume flights from the United States to Israel beginning in March. United is the first major US airline carrier to resume flights to Israel following the October 7 Hamas terror attack and ensuing war in Gaza. United said there will be some connecting flights from New York and Newark on March 2 and March 4 and the goal is to begin daily non-stop flights on March 6. “United conducted a detailed safety analysis in making this decision, including close work with security experts and government officials in the United States and Israel. Neither of the other major US airlines that historically offered flights to Israel, Delta and American Airlines, have resumed service yet.

CNN —A house exploded in Sterling, Virginia, Friday night as fire crews were inside, leaving at least one firefighter dead and at least 11 others injured, including nine other firefighters, officials say. The injured firefighters and two civilians were hospitalized after the blast, according to Loudoun County Fire and Rescue. A bipartisan group of lawmakers want major flight changes at Reagan National Airport in Virginia. Many lawmakers want to see the 1,250-mile perimeter restriction for round-trip flights relaxed. But some members of Congress argue that Reagan National is already under immense strain. But members of Congress also have a huge personal motivation for increasing the number of flights at Reagan National: the location. The prime location makes Reagan National the preferred airport for most lawmakers, but any route alterations would require changing a law which currently blocks long-haul flights of over 1,250 miles to or from the airport.
