Leppard said his clients only spoke to the Ethics Committee after receiving a subpoena and would only testify in public "with a valid legal subpoena that requires them to speak." But he said he would prefer to get that information either through the House Ethics Committee report or from the Justice Department. But, he added, that getting a copy of the House Ethics Committee report would be “the right starting point, politically balanced and complete. Wild and other Democrats on the House Ethics Committee want the report released to the public — or at least sent to Senate Judiciary members for their review. “I have not dictated anything to the Ethics Committee.

President-elect Donald Trump is now receiving intelligence briefings after having declined them during his campaign, according to a source with knowledge of the matter and a former U.S. official. “ODNI is acting consistent with the tradition, in place since 1952, of providing intelligence briefings to the President-elect,” an ODNI spokesperson said. The office would not comment specifically on whether Trump was actually accepting the offer of the briefings. A Trump transition team representative was not able to confirm that Trump had begun receiving the briefings. Before the election, Trump had said he did not want to get the intelligence briefings to avoid any chance he would be accused of leaking information.

Donald Trump and Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines in August 2023. That “seemed to matter” to the committee, Leppard said, adding that committee members were concerned about illegal drug use and payments for sex. On at least two occasions, Leppard said, his clients had sex with Gaetz outside Florida. The women were not paid for sex during the trips, but Gaetz paid for their flights, lodging and entertainment, Leppard said. The two women are private people, who have no political leanings and no motivation to take down Gaetz, Leppard said.

Democrats called for a full party reckoning on Wednesday, as they attempted to pick up the pieces of their shattered organization a day after Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss to former President Donald Trump. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., put out a statement blasting "big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party." "It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them," he said Wednesday. Brendan Smialowski / AFP via Getty Images“People needed to pick who was going to go after him,” the Harris ally said of prosecutors and Democrats. One Harris aide called for more diversity among decision-makers, pointing to a far too-white leadership makeup of Harris’ campaign and Biden’s former campaign.

Vice President Harris is expected to call President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday to concede the 2024 presidential race and is also expected to speak publicly, according to two Harris aides. NBC News called the presidential race Wednesday morning, projecting that Trump won just after 5:30 a.m. Harris, 60, launched her presidential campaign after President Joe Biden, 81, withdrew from the race on July 21 and endorsed her as the Democratic Party's nominee. While Harris had about three months to campaign, Trump launched his re-election campaign, his third for president, shortly after the 2022 midterm elections that November. Polls had shown in recent weeks that the race was dead even and Harris faced a gender gap in which more men, specifically white men, were backing Trump.

Vice President Kamala Harris will make an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, according to three people familiar with the planning. Harris’ cameo on the long-running variety series, where she’s been portrayed by actor Maya Rudolph, brings her to New York, away from the battleground states she’s been visiting in the final stretch of the campaign. "Maya Rudolph — I mean, she’s so good,” Harris said of her impression on “The View” last month, praising her “mannerisms” as well. A month earlier, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a cameo on the show and did an impersonation of Trump. PHOENIX — Vice President Kamala Harris said Thursday that former President Donald Trump's remarks this week about protecting women whether they "like it or not" is another sign of how he "devalues" women. The Trump campaign did not immediately provide a comment on Harris' remarks. Trump on Wednesday said that his "people" had instructed him not to say that he wanted to "protect the women." In addressing Biden's comments, Harris pointed to Trump's rhetoric about "the enemy from within" and comparing the U.S. to a "garbage can." When asked by NBC News what Harris thinks her late mother would say to her in the final days before the election, Harris smiled.

NBC News previously reported that Harris’ campaign was eyeing the university, where Harris obtained her bachelor’s degree, as a potential venue for the vice president's election night headquarters. Legal experts say an attempt to overturn the 2024 election results would be more difficult than in 2020. And a lost Chopin waltz is discovered after 200 years. Legal experts say those changes would make another attempt to overturn the result of the election much more difficult and unlikely. If Trump attempted to overturn the election result in Congress, he’d be up against the bipartisan Electoral Count Reform Act. This election season, voters said they are disillusioned by both major parties, especially over the handling of the war in Gaza.

And on Thursday, Harris delivered an unscheduled speech focused on former Trump chief of staff John Kelly confirming Trump praised Adolf Hitler’s generals. The Harris campaign argues that the plan will tip some final undecided voters — a chunk of which are disaffected Republicans or independents. The Harris campaign says it is also focused on understanding what messaging could impact the small number of undecided voters that remain in key battleground states. “The two most motivating messages for Democratic turnout are those around abortion and democracy.”Some Harris campaign officials echoed that argument. Still, some Democrats who have worked with Harris worry there is too much focus on Trump and not on Harris’ unique skills and vision.

U.S. and Israeli negotiators will travel to Doha in the coming days, the top diplomats for U.S. and Qatar said Thursday, intending to resume long-stalled talks to reach a ceasefire deal and secure the release of hostages in Gaza. The announcement comes after Israeli forces killed Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas, earlier this month and the militant group continues its search for a new leader. Among the options is an Egyptian proposal, as previously reported by NBC News, for a two-week ceasefire in exchange for the release of six hostages. Qatari Sheikh Mohammed said there are ongoing discussions between Egypt and Hamas even today and he “hopes the discussions will yield something positive” for the talks that follow. In the final days of the race, Harris is expected to stress that she still believes she and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, are the “underdogs” in the race and that “nothing can be left on the field,” a Harris aide said. Harris has also started to use video clips of Trump’s comments at her rallies, a pattern that is expected to continue. A Harris campaign aide said the strategy is viewed as a “smart way to force a conversation about him.”“A huge part of our thinking is that we need to show his lack of fitness,” the person said. “Donald Trump’s comments continue to become more bizarre and more strange, and that’s something that should concern the American people and, in these closing days,” Garcia told NBC News on Wednesday, “Kamala Harris will make that argument.”

Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver a “closing argument” speech in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday at the site where former President Donald Trump spoke shortly before the Jan. 6 riot, according to a senior campaign official. Harris will argue it's time to turn the page on Trump and choose a new way forward, the official said. Sources had told NBC News earlier in the day that Harris' campaign had been planning an address on the National Mall and had sought a permit for the site. “We have come to demand that Congress do the right thing and only count the electors who have been lawfully slated,” Trump told the crowd, urging it repeatedly to "fight." The Harris campaign official said the campaign plans to contrast Trump's worst moment in office with what the official called Harris' optimistic vision for the future.

Between the time it takes to process mail ballots and deal with provisional ballots in some battleground states, votes will not be fully tabulated on election night. Projections of who won a close presidential race might not come for days, similar to the 2020 election. The sources all noted they did not have direct knowledge that this was a formal Trump campaign plan. The Trump campaign did not respond to a request seeking comment. New York Magazine announced Monday that it is parting ways with star political reporter Olivia Nuzzi, whose previously undisclosed personal relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. led to an investigation into her work during the 2024 campaign. This investigation, conducted by the law firm Davis Wright Tremaine, “reached the same conclusion as the magazine’s initial internal review of her published work, finding no inaccuracies nor evidence of bias,” New York Magazine said in a statement on its website. Kennedy’s spokesperson, meanwhile, wrote that the former presidential candidate “only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece.”Nuzzi wrote a profile on Kennedy in November 2023, headlined: “The Mind-Bending Politics of RFK Jr.’s Spoiler Campaign.” Its subheading read: “He’s a conservative. And he could turn the presidential race upside down.”Kennedy dropped out of the race in late August and endorsed Donald Trump. He is the son of the late Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and is married to “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star actress Cheryl Hines.
