CNN —The Oscars of the food world — the James Beard Awards — were handed out Monday night to many chefs and restaurants reflecting cultures and regions that have long been overlooked when honoring culinary achievement in the United States. Outstanding Chef winner Michael Rafidi dedicated his award to Palestinian people all over the world in his acceptance speech. The 2024 winners bring heritage from all over the globe — the Philippines, Mexico, Japan, Peru, Vietnam, Senegal — to tables across the United States. This year’s awards also bring recognition to restaurants in many smaller towns and states that have not historically been recognized with James Beard Awards. "I think it may be leading to some rethink into the consideration of letting private equity, as an example, or institutional investors into the NFL." While U.S. pro sports leagues had prohibited private equity investors previously, they've largely softened their stances in recent years, aside from letting any firm be a controlling owner of a team. "We've got a lot of interest in the private equity space," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said at the league's spring meeting in May. "We are making real progress on potential private equity. Ross Sorkin asked Harris if allowing private equity investors into sports would have any negative impacts on the teams or the league's overarching strategy as those investors look toward an exit.

CNN —Two women have accused NFL kicker Brandon McManus of sexually assaulting them while he was on a team flight to London last September for the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to a new lawsuit. The women, identified as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2 in the lawsuit, worked as flight attendants on the Jaguars’ team-chartered flight on September 28. Both women claim that during meal service on the flight, McManus “grinded” his erect clothed penis against them. McManus also tried to kiss Jane Doe 1 earlier during the flight, according to the lawsuit. McManus, who has since signed a contract to join the Washington Commanders, denies the allegations presented in the lawsuit.

Just as the offseason kicked off in mid February, Durde was hired to become the Seattle Seahawks’ new defensive coordinator, becoming the first British coordinator in NFL history. Durde’s first exposure to the NFL came in 2005 when – as part of the NFL International Development Practice Squad program, an early predecessor to the IPP – he spent some time on the practice squad of the Carolina Panthers. He spent three seasons as part of the Falcons’ defensive coaching staff, working across a number of roles under head coach Dan Quinn. His permanent hiring in 2018 meant Durde became the first British full-time coach in NFL history. Under Durde’s stewardship, Dallas’ defensive line developed into one of the most feared in the league, in particular star linebacker Micah Parsons.

Team owners will meet at the annual league meeting in March to discuss private equity. The investment ownership model is favored in the NBA, MLB and NHL— but not in the NFL. So, what will a rule change mean for institutional investors and their Wall Street brokers, as well as owners and sports fans? Experts also think NFL team owners' "wealth would increase drastically," said Rotthoff— due to the considerable profits they've already made from team valuations in the past decade. Wall Street investment banks could also benefit in their role as advisors to wealthy investors and sports teams, including helping to connect buyers with sellers.

The Washington Commanders have an agreement with Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to hire him as coach, according to two people with knowledge of the decision. Quinn, 53, spent the past three seasons running the defense for the NFC East-rival Cowboys after five-plus seasons coaching the Atlanta Falcons. Quinn coached the Falcons to a Super Bowl appearance in 2016 before being fired after an 0-5 start in 2020. He became Washington’s choice after Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, considered a top candidate, told teams Tuesday he was staying with Detroit and the Seahawks hired Baltimore defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald. Macdonald going to Seattle made Quinn the front-runner, and he got the job over the likes of Detroit defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Baltimore assistant Anthony Weaver.

DETROIT (AP) — Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has decided to stay with the team and turn down potential opportunities to be an NFL head coach next season, leading the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks to turn to other candidates. Two people familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Johnson informed teams he would not be leaving the Lions. One of the people familiar with the situation said the Washington brass is still meeting with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. Their 34-31 loss to San Francisco on Sunday paved the way for teams to hire Johnson or Glenn. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Women lead the major categories at the Grammys this year – names like SZA, Taylor Swift, Victoria Monét, Phoebe Bridgers, Olivia Rodrigo and Brandy Clark top the list. If Taylor Swift wins for “Midnights,” she will become the first artist in Grammy history to win the top prize four times. (And, conversely, artists it loves to nominate but not award: both Lana Del Rey and Miley Cyrus have yet to receive a Grammy. I'd love to see a Cyrus win, but I’ve been burned before! She’s tied with the likes of Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus with six nominations, and I think it is her time to finally take home a trophy.

‘Big NFL fan’Rees-Zammit is a Welsh international rugby union player and one of the sport’s biggest talents. Gray recalls being amazed when he first learned of the off-field work NFL players and coaches were doing. He imitates holding a chunky playbook – staggered by the sheer number of plays that NFL players need to become fluent in. According to the NFL, 37 international players have joined teams – allocated, drafted or signed as a free agent – since the IPP’s inception. “He’s a big NFL fan, he’s young … he’s right at the beginning of his journey.
