On Sunday, the artist claimed another artwork depicting piranhas which appeared on a police box near the Central Criminal Court, known as the Old Bailey, in London. A new design of swimming fish by Banksy, which appeared on a police box in the City of London, is cordoned off Monday. A spokesman for the City of London Corporation said it was looking at options to preserve it. The wolf design was seen taken down by men who carried it off on the same day it was revealed. Banksy began his career spray-painting buildings in Bristol, England, and has become one of the world’s best-known artists.

The fury simmering in a subset of White Britain remains a live danger; these riots were shocking, but not entirely surprising. “I normally walk through this city center all the time,” Nadeem Akhtar, 18, told CNN in the northern English city of Sheffield, where angry riots took place. Tommy Robinson, the figurehead of Britain’s far right, was reinstated to X (then Twitter) days after Elon Musk bought the platform.

This escalated into days of riots in the U.K. that saw attacks on mosques, immigration centers and hotels that house asylum seekers. The disinformation circulated online tapped into pre-existing biases and prejudice, Ondrak explained, adding that incorrect reports often thrive at times of heightened emotions. Many of the right-wing protestors claim the high number of migrants in the U.K. fuels crime and violence. Ondrak also noted that many groups that had previously circulated false information about the attack had started walking it back, saying it was a hoax. On Wednesday, the U.K. media regulator Ofcom issued a letter to social media platforms saying they shouldn't wait for the new law to come into force.
