Hyundai Motor North America announced it will recall over 42,000 vehicles due to a wiring issue that can cause the automobiles to roll away, according to a notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday.
The 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz and Hyundai Tucson vehicles subject to the recall have transmissions that can shift out of “park” without the brake pedal having to be applied, increasing the risk of a crash or an injury, per the administration.
All 2025 Santa Cruz and Tucson vehicles in the U.S. are subject to the recall, including over 35,500 Tucson and 6,900 Santa Cruz vehicles.
In early November, it was discovered that the wiring issue that caused the issue with the Tucson vehicle may also have impacted Santa Cruz vehicles.
This prompted a review from the North America Safety Decision Authority on Nov. 13 and a recall of the vehicles.
