REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsDec 4 (Reuters) - Caterpillar (CAT.N) is investing in recycling technology developer Nth Cycle as part of a push to boost the reuse of metals used to make batteries and construction equipment. "The beauty of our system is that it's truly modular," Megan O'Connor, Nth Cycle's co-founder and CEO, said in an interview. Texas-based Caterpillar, which makes heavy machinery emblazoned with its iconic yellow paint, said Nth's Cycle's technology can "help get valuable materials" back into circulation. "Caterpillar's collaboration with Nth Cycle supports our commitment to helping our customers achieve their climate-related objectives and establishing a circular value chain," said Rod Shurman, Caterpillar's senior vice president of electrification and energy solutions, in a statement released by Nth Cycle. Equinor had invested in Nth Cycle's last funding round, announced in 2022.

The round, which includes more than $24 million in Series B funding, was led by VoLo Earth Ventures. Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund, Credit Suisse, New York State Ventures, Kimbal and Christina Musk, and NBA player Russell Westbrook also were part of this equity round. The company also raised $130 million of debt financing led by Goldman Sachs, bringing BlocPower's total capital raised to-date to more than $250 million. BlocPower, a two-time CNBC Disruptor 50 company, has focused on improving the energy consumption and efficiency issues that many of the old buildings in the U.S. face. Since its founding in 2014, BlocPower says it has completed energy projects in more than 5,000 households, commercial buildings and houses of worship.

We were able to walk through this unique ecosystem thanks to the Volo Bog Interpretive Trail, a floating boardwalk that wound through the park. For a few minutes at least, bog birch, sphagnum moss, highbush blueberry and water lilies replaced traffic, electrical lines, agricultural fields and subdivisions. It was like a little outpost of Canada’s boreal forests in the Chicago suburbs. The trails were even long enough that my children started complaining about all the nature they had to walk through. Clocking in at 43.1 acres, Ferson Creek Fen Nature Preserve was a sliver of bird-filled wilderness tucked along the Fox River.
