But Kremlin-affiliated and pro-war accounts aren't playing ball, independent Russian media reported. A new analysis found that only 10 of the top 82 political pro-government Telegram channels had registered. Nearly 90% of Russia's top pro-war Telegram channels have been ignoring a government directive to identify themselves in an official registry, per an analysis by independent media outlet Vertska. But the move was originally unpopular with pro-Kremlin military bloggers, who often maintain anonymity and sometimes post analyses and criticism of Russian war leaders. Vyacheslav Volodin, the chairman of Russia's State Duma, runs the most popular registered channel.

Mental health matters just as much as physical health, and boys should know it needs to be a priority. Nutrition and exerciseDuring puberty, boys’ bodies grow rapidly, and they need the right fuel to keep up. Boys need to understand that what they see online isn’t always real. Boys need to know that it’s OK to ask questions — whether it’s about feelings, their changing bodies or anything else. By creating an environment in which boys feel comfortable talking about their health, we’re giving them the tools they need to navigate a time of massive change.

A Wisconsin judge on Monday struck down portions of a 2011 law that stripped most government workers in the state of collective bargaining rights and set off fierce demonstrations. The ruling by Judge Jacob Frost of the Dane County Circuit Court is certain to be appealed. “Restoring union freedoms to Wisconsin workers will strengthen Wisconsin’s middle class, lift up the voices of workers and lead to better public services for our communities,” said Stephanie Bloomingdale, the president of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO, in a statement. Republicans passed the law, known as Act 10, shortly after winning control of state government in the 2010 elections, arguing that limits on public sector unions were necessary to balance the budget and attract business investments. They advanced the legislation despite large-scale protests at the State Capitol in Madison and an attempt by Democratic lawmakers to scuttle the vote by fleeing to Illinois.

Disney just broke some more box office records — signaling a blockbuster comeback that could fuel the company's revival and its stock price. That beat the $125 million Disney's "Frozen 2" made during its Thanksgiving weekend opening in 2019. Since opening, "Inside Out 2" has made nearly $1.7 billion worldwide and $653 million domestically, according to Box Office Mojo . After its box office struggles in recent years, Disney's current and upcoming slate indicates a turnaround is afoot. Disney CEO Bob Iger is laser-focused on restoring the magic of Disney's movies, Jim Cramer said Monday.

Britain, France, China, Israel, India and Pakistan had already made their voices heard, then North Korea joined in, with Iran seemingly poised to follow, with all the chatter multiplying the opportunities for miscommunication. Now China, after years of contenting itself with a diminutive retaliatory arsenal, has changed its mind and is striving to rival the United States and Russia. Key arms-control treaties have expired or been abandoned, and there is little immediate hope for new ones. Having fallen from 70,000 warheads at the height of the Cold War to about 12,000 today, the global arsenal has begun again to grow, according to the Federation of American Scientists. Whether justified or not, these concerns are destabilizing.

BUCHAREST, Romania Associated Press —Romanians cast ballots Sunday in a parliamentary election sandwiched between a two-round presidential race, the first of which has plunged the European Union and NATO member into unprecedented turmoil following allegations of electoral violations and Russian interference. By 5 p.m., about 7.5 million people – about 42% of eligible voters – had cast ballots, according to the Central Election Bureau. Cristian Andrei, a political consultant based in Bucharest, predicted the general election could also be reshaped by Georgescu’s success, with far-right parties possibly obtaining record highs. “The impact of the surprise in last Sunday’s presidential election will be significant, and we are going to wake up in a new political reality,” he told The Associated Press. Some have predicted that the far-right nationalist S.O.S Romania party, and the little-known Party of Young People, which has backed Georgescu, could pass the threshold.

Strangio, an attorney for the ACLU, is set to make history Wednesday as the first known transgender person to argue before the US Supreme Court. With hindsight, Strangio’s career can appear like it’s been hurtling toward this week’s Supreme Court appearance. Esseks often gets asked, he said, whether the ACLU tapped Strangio to present its case before the Supreme Court because he’s trans. The Supreme Court ruling also could be life-altering for physicians like Dr. Izzy Lowell, whose telehealth practice, QueerMed, provides hormone therapy and other services for transgender and nonbinary people. “I think about all of the arguments that have that have been held in the Supreme Court over just the basic dignity of people.

A few minutes after I'd hopped on a call with a tech founder, he mentioned that he'd started using an "amazing" AI notetaking app. AdvertisementI've been using Granola since midsummer, and it's changed my meetings. In fact, given the whac-a-mole way many of us work — quickly triaging the messages that bombard us throughout the day — AI notetaking apps could have our back. Five years after the flames roared and the world held its breath, Notre Dame cathedral is coming back to life. CNN teams have visited Notre Dame several times since the fire, even as the work ploughed on through Covid-19’s stranglehold on France. But for those soon to revisit Notre Dame, this improbable victory is best seen by looking up. The oak frameworks and lead roofing of the nave, choir and transept of Notre Dame were reconstructed to look exactly like the originals, according to Rebuild Notre Dame. “We use the same materials, oak and stone, and with the same techniques.”The nave of Notre Dame cathedral.

On a chilly November evening, wearing a light leather jacket and a scarf, Auli’i Cravalho was freezing as she plunged through a pair of gleaming doors into a candlelit bar in Midtown Manhattan. “I do not know how people layer here — I’m in total awe,” said Cravalho, who had just come from a photo shoot at a park on the Lower East Side. Like the plucky young heroine she voices in Disney’s “Moana” films — the sequel, “Moana 2,” hits theaters on Wednesday — Cravalho grew up in a tropical climate, in Kohala, Hawaii. But recently she had been living in an apartment in Hell’s Kitchen, with her partner and her best friend, while starring in the Broadway revival of “Cabaret.” Cravalho plays the singer Sally Bowles in the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical about a Berlin nightclub during the rise of fascism. That night would be her first back in the show after sitting out a few performances after she “had come this close to vocal hemorrhaging.”

5 big questions about how tech will look under Trump
  + stars: | 2024-11-29 | by ( Clare Duffy | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +10 min
He sought to swat down legal protections for tech platforms. Many Republicans are eager to see the Trump administration address what they see as “censorship” of right-leaning voices by many mainstream social media platforms. That could mean reforming or reinterpreting Section 230, which shields tech platforms from liability for their users’ posts and allows the platforms to moderate content as they see fit. In essence, Carr could attempt to pass a rule that would make it possible to sue tech platforms under that new interpretation. Ultimately, that could mean hamstringing tech companies’ efforts to reduce hateful or false content on their platforms.

Silicon Valley, long considered a progressive stronghold, has begun to shift toward Donald Trump, according to new voting data analyzed by Business Insider. These numbers show that Trump and Republicans are still a long way off from gaining any real majorities in Silicon Valley. While Elon Musk is based in Texas these days, many of his companies, including Tesla, are still very active in Silicon Valley. Trump, with Musk in support, has promised to cut regulations, which could help Silicon Valley startups grow more quickly. The trend toward Trump in the Silicon Valley electorate mirrors statewide and national trends.

To get on the wrong side of transgender activists is often to endure their unsparing criticism. When J.K. CNN —The morning after Donald Trump was reelected president, Justices Samuel Alito and Elena Kagan began jousting more than usual. More than other justices on their respective sides, conservative Alito and liberal Kagan are sharp-tongued strategic questioners. As usual, Alito and Kagan began referring to each other’s questions but with barely a glance toward the other at their elbow. Skeptical of the litigants’ case, Alito asked their lawyer Deepak Gupta why Huang would have put out financial information that could be quickly exposed as wrong.
