ISTANBUL—Five days after earthquakes killed more than 21,700 people and left tens of thousands injured and homeless, Turks and Syrians prepared to gather for traditional Friday prayers, where sermons are expected to reflect on the nations’ loss and grief.
In the Turkish capital, Ankara, one of the country’s most senior clerics, Ali Erbaş, will lead prayer, as rescue teams continue to sift through rubble and aid agencies begin feeding and sheltering thousands of displaced people across both sides of the Turkish-Syrian border.
