Leonardo Munoz | View Press | Corbis News | Getty ImagesThe domestic box office is on the rebound, having posted its highest third-quarter ticket sales since the pandemic. AMC operates around 900 theaters and 10,000 screens globally, a larger footprint than its chief rivals Cinemark and Regal. By the time the Covid pandemic shuttered theaters and shut down Hollywood, AMC was already $5 billion in the red. Despite the better-than-expected box office performance, AMC saw a 12% decline in attendance during the period. "They talked a lot about new investments and upgrading their theaters and expanding their premium screens, adding XL screens.

But other current employees are dissatisfied with where the strategy shift has left them. In January 2023, Pfizer forecast a steep drop in annual revenue, to between $67 billion and $71 billion. Pfizer's 2023 revenue ultimately came in at $58.5 billion, including $11.22 billion from its Covid vaccine and $1.28 billion from Paxlovid. They recognize an essential truth: delusional people don't learn well. And how can you possibly know where or how to grow and learn if you don't know your starting point? (Surprise, surprise, it really likes information that proves the story right, a problem called confirmation bias.) If you want to see the world the way it really is, you've got to hunt for the truth. AI data centers alone are expected to add about 323 terawatt hours of electricity demand in the U.S. by 2030, according to Wells Fargo. The forecast power demand from AI alone is seven times greater than New York City's current annual electricity consumption of 48 terawatt hours. The natural gas industry is betting gas will serve as the preferred choice. Coal plant retirements and data centers could result in 6 bcf/d of new natural gas demand in EQT's backyard by 2030, the CEO said. The level of electricity demand could help lift natural gas prices out of the doldrums.

Shortly after the opening bell, we will be selling 265 shares of Disney at roughly $122.60. Given the more-than-50% run Disney shares have had from their October 2023 lows, we think it is prudent to trim and move our rating down to a 2, meaning wait for a pullback before buying more. New York CNN —Egg and turkey prices are down. But a deadly bird flu is still threatening poultry flocks, turkey in particular. Turkey takes a hitThis year, turkey prices were low ahead of Thanksgiving — partially because turkey farmers expected an outbreak in the spring that didn’t really happen, boosting turkey supplies, explained Matt Busardo, poultry market reporter at Urner Barry. But the uptick of bird flu cases has hit turkey farms hard, and threatens to tighten supply in groceries this spring. In part that’s because unlike eggs, turkey isn’t a kitchen staple — meaning that higher prices could just lead people to skip that turkey sandwich after all.

GOOGL YTD mountain Alphabet YTD Bottom line Lower-than-expected operating income for the third quarter and a Google Cloud miss dragged Alphabet shares lower by more than 6% in after-hours trading. The Google Cloud performance was particularly disappointing given the strength we saw when Microsoft (MSFT) also reported its Azure numbers on Tuesday evening. Quarterly commentary Despite the topline outperformance, seen in the earnings table above, segment sales at Google Network, Google Cloud and Other Bets came up short. Operating income and quarterly operating margin were also short of expectations as total Traffic Acquisition Costs (TAC) were marginally above expectations. Expenses in Google Cloud and Other Bets were higher than expected, and the company took charges associated with workforce and office space reductions.

September has been unkind to stocks – living up to its historical reputation as the weakest month for the S & P 500 . Still, some Club stocks have been able to buck the downward trend since the start of the month — and none more so than Humana (HUM). The health insurer advanced 7.3% through Friday's close, putting it among the top-10 performing stocks in the S & P 500 over that stretch. In a year largely characterized by outperformance in technology stocks, health care has been one of the worst S & P 500 sectors . The stock entered Monday's session down more than 11% in 2023, the third-worst of any Club stock.

UBS posted a second-quarter profit of $28.88 billion in its first quarterly earnings since Switzerland's largest bank completed its takeover of stricken rival Credit Suisse. UBS said the result primarily reflected $28.93 billion in negative goodwill on the Credit Suisse acquisition. UBS paid a discounted 3 billion Swiss francs ($3.4 billion) to acquire Credit Suisse in March. "Credit Suisse has excellent people, clients, and product capabilities, but the business model was not sustainable any longer and needs to be restructured." UBS delayed reporting its second-quarter results — initially scheduled for July 25 — until after completing the Credit Suisse takeover on June 12.

I do not understand how it could be double the price of the stock when the TVB means that if you closed the bank that's what you would get. I know the stock of Wells Fargo (WFC) didn't do much after it reported. Now, I offer the story of these banks as a preamble to what I see happening in the stock market right now. I don't want to conflate a day of good bank earnings with a month of good stock prices. "We see Frontier's advanced market commitment as an important demand signal boost for the carbon removal market. Carbon dioxide emissions from energy production topped 36 billion tons last year, according to the International Energy Agency, with total global carbon dioxide emissions projected to have been 40.6 billion tons in 2022, according to the Global Carbon Project. So far, Frontier has spent $5.6 million buying nearly 9,000 tons of contracted carbon removal from 15 carbon dioxide removal startups that are collectively pursuing seven methods. And Living Carbon is a synthetic biology startup working on engineering natural systems to remove carbon dioxide. "However, the science is increasingly clear: Carbon removal is an increasingly necessary tool for limiting warming.
How the banks deliver could set the market tone in the coming weeks. Jim said Monday that such a pause could spark a big stock market rally while keeping rates high enough for banks to make money. How these dynamics play out will factor into the Fed's next rate move — and as a result, market sentiment. Since deposit levels directly contribute to a bank's ability to make loans, it's not surprising that commercial bank lending declined in recent weeks. To be sure, Wells is a traditional bank that must deal with short-term deposit and lending gyrations.
This halt, and how regulators and brokerage firms handled the outstanding options contracts, turned simple trades into a big headache for retail investors. Davies said that usually he would sell his winning options trades before expiration, so he does not have to deal with the settlement process. Robinhood later allowed Davies to create the naked short position and therefore to exercise his option. The naked short positions showed an on-paper loss in his account until the stock began trading over the counter on March 28. Another wrinkle is that some types of accounts, including retirement accounts, are not allowed to hold short positions, which created additional steps for traders and brokers to close out the trade.
