Officer Daniel Hodges, of Washington's Metropolitan Police Department, who was on duty both for Trump’s Jan. 6 event and Harris’ rally, said Tuesday was a very different experience. He's since become an outspoken opponent of Trump's, testifying before the Jan. 6 committee and campaigning for Harris. He said he was glad that Harris chose to host a rally at the same spot where Trump told his supporters to march to the Capitol. While Hodges spent Jan. 6 fighting a pro-Trump mob in the lower west tunnel, he didn't see much action in the aftermath of Harris' speech. He incited the crowd to riot while my brother and his fellow officers put their lives at risk,” Sicknick told the crowd.

"That's the real interesting question of China, in terms of how it's approaching its debt issue," Dalio said, speaking at the FutureChina Global Forum in Singapore. Since the end of September, Beijing has announced several waves of stimulus and reform measures aimed at boosting its economy. "I think the changes that are taking place are terrific changes, but you still have to do the debt restructuring," Dalio said.

Apple stock jumped Monday after a Wall Street firm touted the iPhone maker ahead of its quarterly earnings report. Analysts said Apple's stock may be able to advance higher on a late October earnings report that merely matches Wall Street estimates, so investors should be positioned accordingly. However, we do agree with Evercore's optimism on AI iPhone integration, and its ability to usher in an upgrade cycle for Apple's flagship device. But with our "own it, don't trade it" view still intact on Apple stock, it's acceptable for the upgrade cycle to get off to a slower start. "I'm for the elongated [upgrade] cycle," Jim Cramer said on Monday.

As federal investigations swirled around Eric Adams over the past year, the New York City mayor stuck to a familiar script. In one instance, an unidentified Adams staffer agreed to an interview with FBI agents. In March 2019, an Adams staffer was exchanging text messages with the then-Brooklyn borough president about another possible trip to Turkey. “To be o[n the] safe side Please Delete all messages you send me,” the staffer wrote Adams, according to the indictment. Later that day, the Adams staffer visited the businessman at his office and said he had just met with the mayor.

When I arrived at Raziq’s compound, I saw him sitting cross-legged on a carpeted platform, receiving a long line of guests. Trim and cheerful, clean-shaven and barely 30, he wasn’t much older than I, yet he was leading several thousand men under arms. I reached the front of the line, and Raziq shook my hand to welcome me before turning to the next guest. We would never get the chance to meet again, but that was the beginning of my long quest to understand the paradox he represented. Why was the U.S. military, which was supposed to be supporting democracy and human rights in Afghanistan, working closely with a drug trafficker and murderer?

London CNN —The chorus of voices warning about the dangers of record US government debt is growing louder. In the past 24 hours, JPMorgan (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon and Ray Dalio, founder of the world’s biggest hedge fund, have weighed in with concerns about America’s debt pile. Ray Dalio, the billionaire founder of Bridgewater Associates, during a Bloomberg Television interview in New York in April 2024. Dimon acknowledged that debt-fueled government spending, including pandemic stimulus, had been one of the reasons behind robust growth in the world’s biggest economy. Debt servicing costs have also soared, on the back of higher official interest rates, leaving less money for public services.

When busloads of migrants from Venezuela and Latin America started turning up on New York City streets in 2022, it spurred a crisis that has overwhelmed city shelters and incited protests over immigration policies. Thousands of Chinese migrants have also made their way to New York, with many following on the heels of migrants from Central and South America and crossing at the United States-Mexico border. Once they reach the city, however, many are tapping into long-established family and social networks in Chinese enclaves to get on their feet quickly and, for the most part, on their own. It is not known exactly how many Chinese migrants have landed in New York. But immigration court filings since October 2022 show that New York State was their top destination — with more than 21,000 filings for Chinese migrants — followed by California, according to an analysis by Julia Gelatt, an associate director at the Migration Policy Institute.

The market is now largely pricing a peak at the current Fed funds target range of 5.25-5.5%, with interest rate cuts to come next year. watch now"At the outer edges of the economy there is obvious stress that is likely to spread in 2024 with rates at these levels. Recession risk 'delayed rather than diminished' In a roundtable event on Tuesday, JPMorgan Asset Management strategists echoed this note of caution, claiming that the risk of a U.S. recession was "delayed rather than diminished" as the impact of higher rates feeds through into the economy. Minneapolis CNN —The New York civil fraud trial of former President Donald Trump carries extremely high stakes for the self-proclaimed business mogul. “It’s between severe and seismic” as to the effects on Trump’s businesses, Thomas told CNN on Monday. New York CNN —Starbucks employees are getting more pay and new benefits, but some are only going to baristas that haven’t unionized. The question of which workers get what perks and benefits has been one part of a bitter fight between Starbucks and union organizers across the country. Workers who have been at Starbucks for 2-5 years will get a pay bump of at least 4%. “Starbucks has adhered to long-standing legal obligations, which required it to differentiate between unionized or organizing partners and partners in all other stores,” Starbucks spokesperson Rachel Wall said in a statement to CNN Monday. “Withholding benefits from unionized stores is against the law,” said Starbucks Workers United member Alex Yeager in a statement shared by union representatives Monday.

We know there are so many reasons why this bull market has eluded so many. It's sudden broadening into health care, transports and financials just when we were told the bull was slain by its lack of breadth. I hope readers here know that I felt that only by tuning out the Fed could you make maximum money in the market. You simply had to ignore the verbiage, block out the gasbags who simply failed to see the two-staged bull market right in front of them. Needless to say, if you needed any evidence that we are in a bull market, the rally in that dog may be enough to make the prosecution rest.
