They're popular across the country and are used to track the movements of drafting officers, the report said. These Telegram group chats — some of which have more than 100,000 members — are used across Ukraine to tip members off about where draft officers are, the BBC reported. The report said that some men are so intent on avoiding being drafted that they've left Ukraine altogether, all while drafting officers rely on increasingly more strong-arm tactics to recruit soldiers.

Front-line soldiers in Ukraine are spending down time playing video games in which they battle tanks, NYT reported. Another soldier in a front-line tank company said they "love" World of Tanks. It's not the first time Ukrainian soldiers have talked about playing video games while being at war. Indeed, one soldier told Reuters recently that he credits his video game obsession for his ability to effectively strike Russian targets using drones. In World of Tanks, "you are kind of learning to work in a team and developing tactics in the game," a Ukrainian soldier told The Times.

War is often marked by long stretches of boredom, so why turn to the enduring favorite pastime of soldiers — throwing small rocks at bigger rocks — when there’s World of Tanks?
