For Selva, leading the Transformation is unlike any test he has faced in his three-decade career at Citi. To do so, he has to solve for Citi's decades of underinvestment in its infrastructure, which affects every business line of the bank. Under Selva, Citi was the No. Related stories"The challenge with the Transformation role is you are accountable yet not responsible," the managing director in the Transformation said. Hong Kong CNN —Hong Kong’s leader responded on Tuesday after three people were charged by British police for allegedly spying on behalf of the city’s intelligence services. Relations between Hong Kong and its former colonial ruler Britain have soured in recent years following mass pro-democracy protests in the Chinese city in 2019 and 2020. The British government has criticized Hong Kong’s Beijing-backed crackdown on almost all opposition in the years following the protests, while Hong Kong authorities have bristled at Britain providing a safe haven for pro-democracy leaders sought by the Hong Kong police. Hong Kong leader Lee noted in his Tuesday news conference that one of the men charged was the office manager of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London but did not directly address a question over whether it was involved in surveillance of Hong Kong dissidents in the UK. Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee is speaking at a press conference on April 30, 2024.

While most Asia stock markets were lower on Thursday, China's CSI 300 closed almost 2% higher at 3,516.08 ahead of its purchasing managers' index reading for February. Official data is expected to show manufacturing PMI at 49.1, according to a Reuters Poll forecast. The private Caixin manufacturing final PMI is expected to come in at 50.6. So when the Hong Kong government raised the minimum wage by a measly 32 cents on Monday, activists and community workers were scathing in their response. “It cannot cover basic needs in Hong Kong.”The new minimum wage now stands at 40 Hong Kong dollars ($5.1) per hour, up from the previous 37.5 Hong Kong dollars ($4.78) per hour. But Wong said this new increase will make little difference in Hong Kong, consistently ranked one of the world’s most expensive cities. The city’s median hourly wage last year was 77.4 Hong Kong dollars ($9.86), according to the Census and Statistics Department.
