"Not all states have equal protection laws, especially for transgender and gender-diverse individuals," John Tanzella, president and CEO of the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association, told Business Insider. Airbnb hosts can indicate they're LGBTQ-friendly in their listings, and there are companies and entire cruise lines dedicated to gay travel. Perhaps the most comprehensive is the IGLTA, which has been helping members of the community travel safely since 1983. "The future of LGBTQ+ travel is bright," Tanzella said, though he cautioned significant hurdles still remain.

A California cheese and dairy company is the source of a decade-long outbreak of listeria food poisoning that killed two people and sickened more than two dozen, federal health officials said Tuesday. They include a person who died in California in 2017 and one who died in Texas in 2020, CDC officials said. The strain of listeria linked to the outbreak was found in a cheese sample from Rizo-Lopez Foods. By Cassandra Garrison and Dave GrahamMEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Hurricane Otis not only devastated Acapulco, but also exposed fatal weaknesses in ageing infrastructure, teaching hard lessons that coastal cities throughout Mexico must draw on. As Acapulco rebuilds after the deadly Category 5 hurricane, climate experts, architects, engineers and politicians recommended steps Mexico should take. He noted that after the 1985 Mexico City earthquake killed thousands, the capital imposed tougher building standards. While Mexico City must update its standards for structural design every six years, Mexico lets other individual municipalities issue their own construction regulations. After Odile, Baja California's building standards reflected new guidance on areas of weakness identified, such as roofs.

CNN —Hurricane Otis is expected to make landfall Wednesday morning as a Category 5 storm near Acapulco in Mexico, threatening to lash the coastal region with destructive winds, heavy rainfall and potentially “catastrophic storm surge,” forecasters say. Landfall is expected by early Wednesday near or just west of the city, a beach resort town on Mexico’s Pacific coast, the hurricane center said. The heavy rainfall could lead to flash and urban flooding as well as mudslides in higher terrain areas, the hurricane center warned. If Otis makes landfall as a Category 5 hurricane, it would be the first Category 5 landfall for the East Pacific, according to the NOAA Hurricane Database. The previous strongest landfall was Hurricane Patricia in 2015, which made landfall as a Category 4 Hurricane with winds of 150 mph.

Hurricane-force winds and flooding rains should begin to hit Mexico on Tuesday, the center said. The NHC warned of hurricane conditions from southern Jalisco state up to the Islas Marias off the Nayarit coast, and tropical storm conditions stretching north to Mazatlan and south to Manzanillo. A storm surge could also produce "significant coastal flooding" around where Lidia makes landfall, it added. This comes as Storm Max, which hit the southern state of Guerrero on Monday, weakens as it travels inland. The NHC warned that Max would bring strong winds across the southern coastline Monday night and could still produce flash flooding and mudslides across Guerrero and neighboring Michoacan states.
