Only Jam Miller running for his second TD just before halftime trimmed that to 23-14. Alabama had just moved to the top of The Associated Press’ Top 25 after an emotional win over Georgia. It marked the first time since 2007 that Vandy had opened a game against Alabama with a TD — Nick Saban’s second game as coach. This time, the Tide (4-1, 1-1) helped Vanderbilt pad that lead with too many mistakes, sloppy play and penalties. Pavia capped the drive with a 6-yard TD pass to Alabama native Kamrean Johnson with 5:07 left for a 40-28 lead.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — America’s largest privately-owned estate has abruptly shut down in Asheville after Hurricane Helene caused extensive flooding and building damage along the 8,000 acre property. The iconic Biltmore Estate, situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains, spans 175,000 square feet, boasts 250 rooms, 43 bathrooms, 65 fireplaces and 22 miles of walking trail. “We are still assessing impacts to the estate from Tropical Storm Helene and that will take some time,” the estate said. In forested areas, which is a large portion of the estate, wind damage is extensive to grounds and some structures.” The post also said crews are clearing roads to start repairs. It marked the Commodores’ first-ever win over an AP top-five team and just the fourth time Alabama has lost as a No. — Joe RexrodeAlabama isn’t in as much CFP trouble as it may seemThe CFP margin for error has shrunk, of course, for an Alabama team that still has challenging road games against Tennessee, LSU and Oklahoma ahead. Williams’ magic isn’t enoughWhen Alabama needed a big play it called on its 17-year-old phenom Ryan Williams — and he delivered. Much of the office market may be mired in a downturn, but demand has been strong for high-end space. New office construction has dropped off sharply, leading to a potential upcoming shortage. That demand has persisted even as office construction has been stifled by higher interest rates and inflation, which have pushed up costs. Worries over the health of the office market have also made lenders reluctant to finance new development. 8 million square feet of that is pre-leased, meaning that there is only about 10 million square feet of upcoming available top quality space.

The idea behind a high-risk pool was to provide a safety net for people with pre-existing conditions struggling to find coverage. The high-risk pools, however, were critically underfunded, making monthly premiums for some patients double what they would be for a healthy individual, Cox said. “If you got into a high-risk pool, you might have had an exclusion on your coverage for six to 12 months,” Cox said. “When it doesn’t, it collapses.”Graves said that the U.S. could move back to a high-risk pool model but it would require “a massive amount of government subsidies to work.”“They would basically have to infuse the high-risk pool with enough subsidies to keep premiums affordable for people,” he said. “We had isolated pre-existing pools for the past 25 years, and they don’t work.”

In younger women, rates have increased at a faster clip — by about 1.4% every year since 2021. Among Asian American and Pacific Islander women under 50, breast cancer diagnoses have increased by 50% since 2000. Today, Black women are 5% less likely to get breast cancer than white women, but are nearly 40% more likely to die from the disease. The American Cancer Society researchers noted that this disparity is seen in even the most treatable types of breast cancer. Each person’s family and personal history and genetics will also determine when they should start screening for breast cancer.

The Missouri bird flu patient, who didn’t have known contact with poultry or dairy cows, was hospitalized in August and tested positive for the H5 virus. The CDC reported last week that a health care worker who cared for the patient developed mild respiratory symptoms and tested negative for influenza. Additionally, a person who lived with the Missouri patient also became sick on the same day. The second health care worker will be offered a blood test to determine if there are antibodies for the bird flu virus. It isn’t yet known how the Missouri patient got infected with bird flu, the CDC said Friday.

The Food and Drug Administration expanded the approval of Kisqali, a drug for metastatic breast cancer, to also treat patients with earlier stages of the disease, drugmaker Novartis said Tuesday. The approval means that tens of thousands of women diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer will have access to a medication that can help prevent their cancer from coming back. The expanded approval is for patients with HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer, the most common form of the disease. It comes as rates of breast cancer are increasing in younger women: From 2000 to 2019, rates of breast cancer in women ages 20 to 49 increased by 15.6% according to a study published earlier this year in JAMA Network Open. “You’re always going to be faced with the fact every single day that you have had breast cancer,” she said.
