CNN —Doing more aerobic exercise in middle age and old age may reduce the risk of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, a new study found. Without effort, however, cardiorespiratory fitness declines as people age. “This study found a dose-dependent — meaning more was better — effect of exercise fitness on several critical types of cognitive performance,” Isaacson said. Biking, running, jogging, swimming, hiking and briskly walking can all improve cardiorespiratory fitness, experts say. The study showed that people with high cardiorespiratory fitness were more likely to take care of themselves, and therefore protect the heart-brain connection.

Citi announced plans to cut management layers from 13 to eight as part of its biggest overhaul in decades. Citigroup declined to comment on all the personnel moves, and none of the leaders named responded to requests for comment. The full reorganization could involve thousands of layoffs, according to a source familiar with the situation who was not authorized to speak publicly. Preparations for Monday's announcements were communicated verbally in meetings last week, according to another source familiar with the situation. On a mid-October Monday, shortly before 9 a.m., 179 elite puzzlers made their way into the ballroom of a Toronto hotel and found their allocated seats for the World Sudoku and Puzzle Championships. Quiet descended as proctors distributed booklets for Round 1: nine Sudoku puzzles, with a 45-minute time limit. He is a three-time world Sudoku champion, and in 2018 he won the title of world puzzle champion, making him the first person to win both honors. The annual championship event comprises two days of Sudoku, followed by three days of other types of pencil-and-paper logic puzzles. There were also trickier variants, such as “Difference Sudoku,” for which the standard rules apply, but also each number shown in a circle between two adjacent cells indicates the difference of the numbers in those two cells.
