CNN —Holiday travelers returning home this weekend could contend with more delays at airports as severe thunderstorms intensify in the South and a parade of atmospheric river-fueled storms slams the West. The threat shifts Sunday to the Southeast and the East Coast – where tornado-spawning storms are expected in Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia. On Sunday, the severe storm threat weakens as it spreads to the Southeast, the East Coast and parts of the Mid-Atlantic. A lower severe storm threat spreads from the Florida Panhandle to southwestern Pennsylvania. An additional 4 inches of rainfall is possible through the weekend, which could bring storm totals to nearly 10 inches.

“I could see his hand, his gloves, kind of poking out, waving,” Braeden Hansen said Wednesday, a day after the avalanche buried Hunter Hansen, his brother, in the Franklin Basin, close to the Idaho border. The avalanche happened at around 8,400 feet elevation, according to the Utah Avalanche Center. "I saw the snow ripple and knew that was an avalanche," said Braeden, who was ahead of his brother. "It can happen at any moment and day, and it sure did happen to us," Braeden Hansen said. "You hear so many tragic stories of people getting buried in avalanches and not making it out, so I feel very blessed and lucky," Hunter Hansen said.
