With New York's congestion pricing plan indefinitely delayed, traffic into Manhattan this summer is set to be gridlocked as usual. But travelers staying in some of the city's top luxury hotels can avoid the highways altogether. Announced Tuesday, Marriott International Luxury Group is providing free helicopter transfers from John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport from July 1 to Sept. 2. The transfers can reduce transportation time from the airports into Manhattan to as little as five minutes, the company said. One expert said eVTOLs fly at low altitudes and could create airspace and security challenges. The US's first electric vertical-takeoff and -landing aircraft are expected to fly commercial passengers as soon as 2025. It still needs further approvals to fly for airlines like United, but the latest certificate puts it one step closer. Archer's Midnight aircraft are typically shorter range, with the Midnight flying up to 100 miles on one charge. PLANO, Texas (AP) — A small plane crashed and burned Tuesday on the doorstep of a strip mall in Texas, killing the pilot and causing a nearby car to catch fire, but nobody on the ground was injured, authorities said. The single-engine Mooney M20, with just the pilot aboard, went down at about 6 p.m. north of Air Park-Dallas Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Photos from the scene showed the wreckage in a parking space next to a nail salon and diner just outside of the shopping center in the Dallas suburb of Plano. The crash caused a parked car to catch fire, but nobody was inside the vehicle, authorities said. It wasn't immediately clear whether the plane was taking off or trying to land at the small suburban airport, which has a single runway.

REUTERS/Carlos Barria/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsBENGALURU, Nov 9 (Reuters) - InterGlobe Enterprises, which backs India's top airline IndiGo, and U.S.-based Archer Aviation (ACHR.N) will launch an all-electric air taxi service in India in 2026 that will be "cost-competitive" with on-road services, the companies said Thursday. The companies said that a trip that typically takes 60 to 90 minutes by car in Delhi, for example, will take about 7 minutes in an air taxi. InterGlobe Enterprises, which owns nearly 38% of IndiGo-parent InterGlobe Aviation (INGL.NS) as well as hospitality and logistics businesses, also plans to use the e-aircraft for cargo, logistics, medical, emergency and charter services. Archer secured a $142 million-deal from the U.S. Air Force in July to provide six Midnight aircraft and said in October it would launch an air taxi service in the UAE.

PARIS/TORONTO, June 18 (Reuters) - A year ahead of the Paris Olympics, flying taxi maker Volocopter wants to prove to executives at the Paris Airshow it is on track to ferry customers around the sporting showcase and take off globally. Success could boost the broader urban air mobility sector by persuading risk-averse investors that air taxis are worth putting money into, analysts and executives said. No flying taxi maker, whether Germany's Lilium or American player Joby, has received certification so far. US proposes training, pilot certification rules for air taxis

REUTERS/Tim HepherWASHINGTON, June 7 (Reuters) - The U.S. aviation regulator said on Wednesday it was proposing comprehensive training and pilot certification rules for flying taxis, electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL), which have been touted as the future of urban air mobility. Low-altitude urban aircraft have drawn intense global interest, with numerous eVTOL companies going public. In May, the FAA issued an "updated blueprint" for airspace and other changes to accommodate future air taxis. Last year, the FAA issued the airworthiness criteria that air taxi startup Joby Aviation (JOBY.N) must meet for its Model JAS4-1 eVTOL aircraft and Archer Aviation (ACHR.N) for its air taxi to be certified for use.

Because they often travel shorter distances than commercial jets, private jets are generally less efficient, and their emissions per passenger are much higher. According to data from European non-profit Transport and Environment, private jets can be five to 14 times more polluting than commercial planes, and 50 times more polluting than trains. Yet the private aviation sector has seen considerable growth in recent years. EVTOL aircraft have a more limited range than private jets, and would be used for short flights around and between cities – which, in the future, could be an eco-friendlier option for the many celebrities who’ve been criticized for traveling short distances in their private jets. “We are seeing some really exciting innovations coming from private aviation,” said Dr. Kearns.

Killing off projects had become something of a tradition at Kittyhawk, the secretive flying-car startup launched by the Google cofounder Larry Page. Larry Page has used his Google money to found a series of flying car companies with one common goal: "to free the world of traffic." "When Bloomberg did their original exposé, that's when urban air mobility became a thing," a former Kittyhawk employee recalled. Everyone thought: If Larry Page is in this space, there must be something here." Interpreting "Larry-isms" or "learning to speak Larry" were essential skills for any Kittyhawk employee who wanted to retain their sanity.
MONTREAL, April 5 (Reuters) - Honeywell International (HON.O) on Wednesday will announce a first deal for its most powerful generator, which would power a European-Canadian startup's hybrid electric cargo airship. Multiple startups are working on electric or hybrid aircraft to meet aviation's long-term climate goals. Flying Whales would use four generators per airship. The French parent company Flying Whales SAS and its Quebec based subsidiary have raised 162 million euros ($177.57 million) over three financing rounds. The first flight of the LCA60T airship in France is expected in late 2025 with entry into service planned for 2027, Flying Whales said.
PARIS, March 28 (Reuters) - German air taxi developer Lilium said on Tuesday it was in "active and constructive" discussions for new funding as it ramps up battery-cell production. But the challenge of securing certification and funding innovations such as batteries weigh heavily on the new sector. In November, Lilium raised $119 million from existing and new shareholders and partners such as Honeywell. Headed by former Airbus executive Klaus Roewe, Lilium is initially targeting contracts with large corporations and private individuals. Critics say the more radical design may be harder and take longer to certify than other eVTOL models.

Nov 21 (Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Monday proposed new rules that would help pave the way for commercial air taxi operations by around the middle of the decade. Electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) have been touted as flying taxis that could be the future of urban air mobility. The FAA issued a proposal to update its air carrier definition to add "powered-lift" operations to regulations covering other commercial operations like airlines, charters and air tours. The FAA is separately developing a powered-lift operations rule for certifying pilots and operating requirements to fly eVTOLs. The FAA expects to issue an implementation plan next May that will help it meet the industry's ambitious growth plans, he added.
