With New York's congestion pricing plan indefinitely delayed, traffic into Manhattan this summer is set to be gridlocked as usual. But travelers staying in some of the city's top luxury hotels can avoid the highways altogether. Announced Tuesday, Marriott International Luxury Group is providing free helicopter transfers from John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport from July 1 to Sept. 2. The transfers can reduce transportation time from the airports into Manhattan to as little as five minutes, the company said. The Wall Street investment bank began research coverage of the EHang stock with an overweight rating and a $27.50 per share price target, implying more than 58% upside from Friday's $17.38 close. PLANO, Texas (AP) — A small plane crashed and burned Tuesday on the doorstep of a strip mall in Texas, killing the pilot and causing a nearby car to catch fire, but nobody on the ground was injured, authorities said. The single-engine Mooney M20, with just the pilot aboard, went down at about 6 p.m. north of Air Park-Dallas Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Photos from the scene showed the wreckage in a parking space next to a nail salon and diner just outside of the shopping center in the Dallas suburb of Plano. The crash caused a parked car to catch fire, but nobody was inside the vehicle, authorities said. It wasn't immediately clear whether the plane was taking off or trying to land at the small suburban airport, which has a single runway.

The pilot shortage is estimated at 18,000 commercial aviation pilots in 2023, and 17,000 in 2030. An autonomous urban mobility flight is estimated to cost half of a piloted urban mobility flight. Previous estimates had put the shortage closer to 65,000 — before updates put the number at around 17,000 earlier this year. According to the report, the total cost per passenger-seat-kilometer of an autonomous urban mobility flight is half the cost of a piloted urban mobility flight, making a case for developing pilot-less technologies.

Nov 21 (Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Monday proposed new rules that would help pave the way for commercial air taxi operations by around the middle of the decade. Electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) have been touted as flying taxis that could be the future of urban air mobility. The FAA issued a proposal to update its air carrier definition to add "powered-lift" operations to regulations covering other commercial operations like airlines, charters and air tours. The FAA is separately developing a powered-lift operations rule for certifying pilots and operating requirements to fly eVTOLs. The FAA expects to issue an implementation plan next May that will help it meet the industry's ambitious growth plans, he added.
