☆ Epic Universe: Universal Orlando announces opening date for the theme park

CNN —Universal Orlando Resort announced Thursday morning that its highly anticipated new theme park, Epic Universe, will open on May 22, 2025, just before Memorial Day weekend. “I anticipate that this new Epic Universe theme park will easily crack 6 million plus visitors during its first 12 months of operation,” Speigel told CNN in an email. “Universal Studios theme parks have been on a huge roll since Harry Potter was introduced in 2010.”Speigel said this park will ratchet up the Orlando theme park market, where Universal and Disney are the biggest players. Speigel – along with many theme park fans – wonders how Disney will respond to its competitor’s moves and whether it will also open a new theme park in the coming years. It will be located in the new theme park, with Universal’s first dedicated theme park entrance for hotel guests.

My family of three recently paid $650 for upgraded tickets to Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. Tickets to Universal parks in the US can cost twice as much, so it was a great value. AdvertisementAs a longtime Florida resident, I've been to Universal Studios Orlando many times. So, on a recent trip to Japan, my family decided to explore the Universal theme park in Osaka. The best way to do that was splurging on early entry park tickets and express line passes for all of us.

Read previewOne of my favorite hidden-gem theme parks is Silver Dollar City, nestled in the Ozark Mountains in Branson, Missouri. Both are owned by Herschend Family Entertainment, though Silver Dollar City opened first in 1960. I've visited theme parks all over the world and this now ranks as one of my favorites. There are also unique attractions at Silver Dollar City that I haven't experienced anywhere else — Grandfather's Mansion was one of my favorites. This represents a 31% upside over the current price. He told the investment bank's clients that Nintendo could delay the Switch 2 launch if the momentum for the current console remains strong. The analyst has rated Nintendo a buy but set a conservative price target of 8,400 yen. However, if the new console fails to gain traction with consumers, Gibson cautioned that Nintendo's stock is likely to miss his price target.

Airlines and hotel chains in recent weeks have reported a surge in bookings for international trips — along with rising prices. International airfare is averaging $962, up 10% from last year and 26% from 2019, according to fare-tracking company Hopper. Marriott International on Tuesday said second-quarter revenue per available room rose 6% year over year in the U.S. and Canada. Nightly rates for Marriott luxury properties, like JW Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton and Edition in the U.S. and Canada ticked 1% down year over year. "The fact that I'm spending a month in Europe is going to stop me from taking some domestic trips in the near future," Inman said.

Wait times for rides and attractions at both resorts have shortened, according to analysts who track theme park attendance. Disney CEO Bob Iger attributed Disney World’s recent decline in wait times to an overall slump in Central Florida tourism. Iger told CNBC he did not have “long-term concerns” about Disney’s theme parks. For Universal’s Florida parks, every month since March has seen lower average wait times, according to the site. Pareti said she spends between four and six days per week at Disney’s parks and visits Universal parks, as well.

Universal Parks and Resorts has announced two new developments in Frisco, Texas, and Las Vegas. The 110,000-square-foot project in Las Vegas will become a permanent horror experience. Instead, the Texas property will be a first-of-its-kind theme park for families while the Las Vegas development will become a go-to destination for horror fanatics. But similar to Universal Orlando park and resort, this Texas property will grow to include a themed hotel as well. ☆ Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Orlando to close parks as Hurricane Ian approaches Florida

As Hurricane Ian nears the west coast of Florida, the Walt Disney Company and Comcast's Universal Studios are preparing to close their Orlando-based theme parks for at least two days. Disney announced Tuesday that Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot and Magic Kingdom would be shuttered Wednesday and Thursday. According to the National Hurricane Center, the storm is headed toward Tampa and will likely pass over central Florida, where the Disney and Universal parks are located. This is not the first time in Walt Disney World's 50-year history that it has closed due to hurricanes. Most recently, in September 2019, the parks briefly closed due to the forecast path of Hurricane Dorian.
