CNN —An aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is alleged to have leaked classified information to foreign press in the hopes of influencing public opinion on hostage negotiations, according to a court release published Sunday. Eliezer Feldstein was arrested earlier this month for allegedly leaking “classified and sensitive intelligence information,” according to court documents. Sunday’s court release outlines more of the details surrounding this alleged leak. This came shortly after the Israeli military announced on September 1 that six Israeli hostages were killed in Gaza. Both cited Israeli intelligence sources and supported a narrative being pushed by Netanyahu at the time.

When the rationing of sugar and sweets ended in September 1953, the average adult’s daily sugar consumption in the UK nearly doubled almost immediately, from about 40 grams to 80 grams. Corkins says one way for parents to reduce sugar consumption in young children is to change their own habits. The key is practicing moderation when consuming sugary foods.

London CNN —Local governments across England, Scotland and Wales face a £4.3 billion ($5.6 billion) hole in their finances in the coming year, according to a new report. Many of Britain’s local governments have faced chronic funding shortfalls over the past decade, partly as a result of deep cuts to funds from the central government in the 2010s. “Councils are teetering on the brink of financial disaster,” Unison general secretary Christina McAnea said in a statement. The number of public toilets dropped by 1,629 over the same period, and the number of council-run libraries fell by 1,376, according to Unison. Giving examples of further cuts to come, Unison said Shropshire Council in the West Midlands region of England plans to slashup to 540 jobs.

London CNN —Bruce Springsteen became the first international songwriter to be awarded a fellowship of the Ivors Academy in its 80-year history – but he had to put up with some ribbing from one of his most famous peers first. At the Ivor Novello Awards ceremony at Grosvenor House in London Thursday night, Springsteen was inducted into the fellowship by Paul McCartney, who was the academy’s first-ever fellow. “He’s known as the American working man, you know?” a clip of the ceremony posted to social media showed McCartney saying. “There is no one more fitting than Bruce Springsteen to be the first international songwriter inducted into our Fellowship,” Tom Gray, chair of the academy, said in a press release. “I’m gonna sound really weird up here because I sang in the rain, all night last night,” he said in a speech.

Paul McCartney has added another feather in his cap as the United Kingdom’s first billionaire musician, the Sunday Times reported in the 2024 edition of its annual Rich List, published Friday. According to the Times, the 81-year-old Beatles alum and his wife Nancy are worth £1 billion ($1.3 billion), up from £950 million ($1.2 billion) in 2023. Beyoncé earlier this year released her hit album “Cowboy Carter,” in which she reimagined the Beatles’ 1968 song “Blackbird,” originally written by McCartney. McCartney has released some music of his own over the past year: Last November, the Beatles released the chart-topping “Now and Then,” advertised as the group’s final song. McCartney famously sang that he doesn’t care too much for money, but the new album’s release is expected to give the rock star’s net worth another boost.
