Legendary Chicago Bulls forward Bob Love, one of the first stars the team had, has died at the age of 81 after a battle with cancer. Love spent the bulk of his NBA career with the Bulls, then spent decades as a team ambassador in a variety of roles after his playing career ended. “Bob was a true legend and a beloved member of our family,” the Bulls said in a statement. Originally selected by Cincinnati in the 1965 NBA Draft, Love was one of the first star players for the Bulls after they entered the league. Love spent decades as an ambassador for the Bulls, with his impact “transcending basketball,” according to a statement by the team.

CNN —For Democratic pro-Palestinian activists, Donald Trump’s reelection delivered a bitter vindication. Led by the Uncommitted National Movement, they spent months pushing and pleading with the Biden administration to scale back its support for Israel’s war in Gaza. “I don’t have any regrets,” Uncommitted spokesman and strategist Waleed Shahid told CNN. After weeks of back-and-forth, on the final night of the confab, party officials inside the United Center told Uncommitted leaders it was a no-go. “The thing I’ve been saying and I will always say is that these uncommitted voters are our voters, they’re our family,” Barnes told CNN at the time.

Comparisons were drawn to the 1968 Chicago convention, when national unrest during the civil rights movement and over the Vietnam War sowed an atmosphere of violence and chaos. Chicago Police Department officers were trained to deploy a disciplined and patient approach that focused on protecting free speech and allowing people to lawfully protest, a department official said. “The department trained more than a year for this,” a Chicago Police Department official who was not authorized to speak publicly told NBC News. “We are trying to get away from the old image of the Chicago Police Department,” the official said. Every convention has its highlights and low points, and the hastily revised Democratic convention was no exception. More than 100 speakers took the stage at the United Center in Chicago over four nights, and their speaking abilities ranged from excellent to, well, kind of bumbling. Here are some of the moments we will remember, and others we are hoping to forget. Vice President Kamala Harris, assuring that she’s no pushover: “As commander in chief, I will ensure America always has the strongest, most lethal fighting force in the world.”Least convincing denial. In the end, she did not wear a white suit. For the biggest, most consequential speech of her life, for the headline appearance in four days of high pageantry, Kamala Harris accepted her nomination as the Democratic candidate for president in navy blue. That’s a bigger symbolic statement than it may at first appear. Many women in the United Center in Chicago wore white. That’s what she offered in her speech — “a chance to chart a new way forward” — and that’s what her suit represented.

Like most pop culture fantasies, speculation that Beyoncé would make an appearance at the DNC started – and ended – on social media. From the moment CNN reported in July that Beyoncé had granted the vice president permission to use her 2016 song “Freedom” for her presidential campaign, there were questions. People spotted wearing ‘COWBOY KAMALA’ sashes at the Democratic National Convention. Eva Hambach/AFP/Getty ImagesA bee emoji shared on X by White House political director Emily Ruiz further spiked the hype. “If you thought the Oprah surprise was big, just wait.”On Thursday evening, TMZ reported that Beyoncé would indeed be performing.

Kamala Harris had a message for America about Donald Trump and JD Vance on Thursday night. “Simply put, they are out of their minds,” she said to cheers from thousands of Democratic convention delegates in United Center. She was talking about their draconian abortion stances but it could have applied to so much more. Well, we trust women.”Harris has to prove that she is a woman America can trust, as she tries to get the country to do something it has never done before: elect a woman as president. She promised that she would “proudly” sign a bill restoring abortion rights across America.

One image, however, has captured what the moment could mean for young girls. Amara Ajagu watches as Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, speaks on the fourth day of the Democratic National Convention at the United Center in Chicago, on Thursday, August 22, 2024. More so than most little girls, Ajagu can say that Harris could be the first president who looks like her. Harris’ potential to be the first has been an undercurrent of her presidential runs since her first campaign in 2020. Prior to the vice president’s speech, Amara and her younger sister, Leela, led the crowd in a lesson on how to pronounce their great-aunt’s first name: “Comma,” like the punctuation mark, then “La,” like the sing-song “la, la, la.”

ET on Friday, TMZ fessed up: BEYONCE NOT AT DNC AFTER ALL, it acknowledged. "To quote the great Beyoncé: We gotta lay our cards down, down, down ... we got this one wrong." It's that in 2024, for much of the modern media world, a TMZ report is pretty close to accepted fact. To me, TMZ's big breakthrough as a Real News Source was when it broke the news of Michael Jackson's death in 2009. And if you still aren't convinced, see this tweet from CNN's Abby Phillip, who declared that "TMZ lost a lot of credibility tonight."

The party in Chicago is done, the confetti has been swept up, the pictures have been posted to social media. But the real question as exuberant Democrats woke up on Friday was whether they could channel the sheer intoxication of the United Center into a sustained, 74-day sprint to Election Day. The thousands of jubilant delegates in the hall this week were not representative of the swing voters that Ms. Harris needs to defeat former President Donald J. Trump. Ms. Harris can expect a bruising battle over the next two and a half months. Ms. Harris has had one of the most impressive debuts of any general election candidate in recent times, yet she still faces polls within the margin of error.

Though Republicans have branded themselves as the party of capital-P patriotism since the Nixon years, Democrats sought to reclaim American pride this week. A striking number of this year's speakers focused on military might and distinctly American values, from Harris herself to Iraq war veterans. This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. For the past decade, Loge said that Democrats have been "shy" or "embarrassed" about embracing classic American patriotism, but that Harris and Walz are attempting to reframe the association with the flag. More than 200 digital content creators will attend the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this week with dedicated "creator credentials" that will grant these influencers special access to the party's convention. The convention committee is providing these creators with exclusive access to the week's events and guests. Creators will not be paid to attend the convention or to produce content while they are there. Like journalists, the content creators will also be responsible for their own transportation and housing expenses. The DNCC is also working with creators who can't attend in person, to grant them remote access to engage with the convention.

Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. The Harris-Walz rally in Milwaukee would be the latest visit on a tour in which the candidates spoke to crowds of over 10,000 people at five stops in battleground states last week. The campaign has jubilantly pointed to the events’ high energy and Mr. Walz has bragged about the turnout, irritating Mr. Trump to the point that he falsely claimed the Harris crowds were fake. The planned rally on Tuesday would most likely take place before the prime-time speeches in Chicago, where former President Barack Obama is set to be the night’s featured attraction. Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee is about 80 miles from the United Center in Chicago, where Democrats will gather for their convention.

Several prominent Democratic figures are set to speak at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this month, two sources familiar with the plans told NBC News. President Joe Biden, former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have been confirmed as speakers at the convention. The Harris campaign last week announced Minnesota Gov. Harris, who is the first Black woman and first Indian American in U.S. history to secure a major party’s presidential nomination, will formally accept the Democratic Party’s nomination at the convention. The Harris campaign raised a historic $310 million last month, and $36 million in the 24 hours after she announced Walz as her running mate.

“It would be a Category 5 hurricane,” said one top Democratic official nervous about Biden considering what would happen if the president stepped aside. Biden campaign aides have spent the last couple of days pointing to metrics like some of their best grassroots fundraising days and a surge in job applications since Thursday. Biden is heading to the Camp David presidential retreat where he was expected to spend the rest of the weekend. Democratic operatives always like to mock headlines that describe them as “in disarray.” Now some tell CNN they worry they could end up in more disarray than ever. “President Biden is the nominee and he’s going to remain the nominee,” said Cutter, who is on contract to produce the convention.
