A man is accused of viciously attacking a sleeping passenger on a United Airlines flight Monday afternoon, leaving him bloody and bruised, federal authorities said. The assault occurred on a flight from San Francisco International Airport in California to Dulles International Airport in Virginia, court documents state. On his way back to his seat, Nelson allegedly stopped at seat 12F and "without notice began physically attacking a sleeping male passenger by punching him repeatedly in the face and head until blood was drawn," the court filing says. During the alleged one-minute attack, blood splattered on Nelson's coat, the seat, the wall and the window, the filing states. Authorities said a fellow passenger intervened and monitored Nelson at a seat near the front of the plane until it landed in Virginia.

KINSALE, Ireland — Three days and 225 miles later, a group of almost 100 serving and retired firefighters from New York and Ireland will cycle into a garden of remembrance on Wednesday to honor those who were killed in the 9/11 terror attacks. Ambassador's Dublin residence on Monday, the hardy group made their way across Ireland’s lush, rolling hills peddling their way to 17 fire stations and a fair few pubs along the way. It's part of a bid to raise money for the victims and for those still suffering from injuries and the effects of their work at Ground Zero. “We lost 343 firefighters in an instant,” one of the cyclists, Michael Schreiber, told NBC News on Monday, adding that 370 had died since 9/11. “I lost so many friends that day, and I still continue to lose guys,” he said.

On 9/11, the first meme dropped at 8:56 a.m. "That is a big fucking hole in the World Trade Center sirs!" 9/11 jokes, in other words, often have very little to do with 9/11. She says 9/11 memes have always been popular with her cohort. Domineau says it's only natural for young people to take 9/11 jokes to the next extreme.

Terrell Davis, a Pro Football Hall of Fame member, said he was detained by the authorities on Saturday in California after he “lightly” tapped a United Airlines flight attendant’s arm to ask for a cup of ice — an episode that he said left him feeling “humiliated, embarrassed, powerless and angry.”Mr. Davis, 51, was traveling from Denver to Orange County, Calif., on a United Airlines flight with his family, he wrote in a statement released by his lawyers. During the flight, Mr. Davis said, his son asked for a cup of ice, and that the flight attendant “either didn’t hear or ignored” his son. Mr. Davis said he then “lightly tapped” the attendant on the arm to get his attention, and that the attendant shouted, “Don’t hit me,” and rushed to the front of the plane. “I was confused, as were the passengers in front of me who witnessed the exchange,” Mr. Davis wrote. “I thought nothing of it other than this particular employee was incredibly rude and blatantly wrong in his accusations of me hitting him.”

CNN —A United Airlines plane lost a wheel while taking off Monday from Los Angeles International Airport, officials said, marking the latest issue this year for the airline, which was already the focus of a safety review by federal aviation officials. The Boeing 757-200 that lost its wheel completed its planned flight to Denver, where it safely landed, United said. “The wheel has been recovered in Los Angeles, and we are investigating what caused this event,” the airline said in a statement. The incident comes months after another United Airlines flight lost a wheel while taking off from San Francisco International Airport, damaging several cars in a parking lot. The incident was one of at least a dozen involving United Airlines flights in March, according to a CNN analysis, prompting CEO Scott Kirby to send a safety message to customers.

Here’s how air turbulence can create problems for air travelers. In cases of light and moderate turbulence, passengers might feel a strain against their seatbelt, and unsecure items in the cabin may move around. In 2022, Williams, who co-authored the study, told CNN that he believed that severe turbulence “could double or triple in the coming decades.”He went on to attribute this to “clear air turbulence,” a type of turbulence that strikes suddenly is very difficult to avoid. Since it’s sometimes impossible to anticipate when an aircraft will encounter clear air turbulence, the only way to be 100% safe is to keep strapped in for the whole ride. The Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore, appears to encountered severe turbulence over Myanmar after crossing Southeast Asia’s Andaman Sea.

Last month in Chicago, a United Airlines flight to London was ready to depart, but it was still waiting for 13 passengers connecting from Costa Rica. The airline projected they’d miss the flight by seven minutes. The system also sent text messages to the late-arriving passengers and the people on the waiting jet to explain what was happening. still might not be able to find space for your carry-on, but it could help put an end to the 40-gate dash — sprinting to catch your connecting flight before the door slams shut — as well as other common travel headaches. CNN —The union representing pilots at American Airlines says it is seeing a “significant spike” in safety issues on flights. There were roughly a dozen incidents on United Airlines flights last month alone, according to a CNN analysis, which prompted CEO Scott Kirby to send a safety message to customers. “While United Airlines is currently under public and government scrutiny, it could just as easily be American Airlines,” said the message from the union’s safety committee, urging members to report problems and to resist being rushed or intimidated. “As the last link in the safety chain, our passengers and crew depend on us to be the strongest link in that chain,” the message said. American Airlines insisted in a statement that safety is its top priority, saying that “our robust safety program is guided by our industry-leading safety management system.”“It includes a multitude of collaborative programs — and regular touchpoints — with the FAA and all our unions, including APA, to further bolster our strong safety record and enhance our ever-evolving safety culture,” the company added.
