The exporter-heavy FTSE 100 index (.FTSE) edged up 0.3% in early trade, while the domestically focussed FTSE 250 index (.FTMC) was flat.
Shares of real estate firm Unite Group (UTG.L), product testing company Intertek Group (ITRK.L) and aerospace supplier Melrose (MRON.L) declined between 0.5% and 1.5% as they traded ex-dividend.
