By analyzing the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances, CAP found that in 2022, union households held $338,482 in median wealth. Black, nonunion households have a median household wealth of $61,500; meanwhile, Black union households hold around $164,6000 in median household wealth. Union membership rates have declined for decades, reaching a record low of 10% in 2023. The researcher VanHeuvelen previously told BI that the decline in union membership would be like if the wage premium for going to college disappeared.

CNN —Americans overwhelmingly side with unionized autoworkers in their ongoing strike against major car companies, a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS finds, even as most say that elected officials should steer clear of labor disputes. Support for the striking workers is particularly robust among Democrats (56% sympathize strongly), members of union households (57%) and self-described liberals (61%). The effects of the United Auto Workers union strike have been relatively limited for American consumers so far. There’s a slightly more pronounced racial divide, with 79% of White Americans saying things have gotten harder financially, compared with 68% of Americans of color who feel the same. A 64% majority of Americans say that the GOP-led House committees investigating Biden are mostly using the investigations to gain political advantage, compared with 36% who say they are mostly conducting objective investigations.

Several polls do show him somewhat improved among Black voters. A Quinnipiac University poll in September, for example, showed Trump with 25% support among Black voters. Abortion could be the most difficult pivot for Trump, since he is upsetting activists on both ends of the debate. Some 72% of self-identified Democrats said they backed the auto workers strike and 79% said they supported the Hollywood strike. The poll found that 48% of Republicans backed the auto workers strike, while 47% opposed it. Other candidates like Nikki Haley and Tim Scott have said the auto workers are asking for too much. Two-thirds said pay for CEOs and workers should go up equally -- a central talking point of the UAW strike.

LOS ANGELES, July 19 (Reuters) - Streaming video pioneer Netflix (NFLX.O) disappointed Wall Street on Wednesday with second-quarter revenue that fell short of analyst estimates, sending shares tumbling nearly 9% in after-hours trading. Netflix has been looking for new ways to make money as streaming competition intensifies and it nears market saturation in the United States. Its nearly 6 million subscriber additions outpaced the 1.9 million that Wall Street expected. Quarterly revenue climbed 2.7% from a year earlier to $8.2 billion, shy of analyst forecasts of $8.3 billion. Netflix said its advertising tier remained a small part of its membership base and that current ad revenue is not material.

May 1 (Reuters) - Vyacheslav "Slava" Zaitsev, the couturier behind world-famous Soviet fashion that was often adorned with colourful Russian folkloric motifs, died on Sunday at age 85, Russian news agencies reported. After the show, Zaitsev received offers to open stores in the West, which the Soviet authorities rejected. In 1979, Zaitsev left the All-Union House of Models for a small atelier, which by 1982 he turned into the Slava Zaitsev Moscow Fashion House, becoming the first Soviet designer allowed to label his clothing. Among Zaitsev's Russian clients were music stars, actors, socialites and politicians. The patronage of Raisa Gorbacheva, the wife of the last Soviet Union leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, elevated his international fame in the 1980s.
