Another year, another lousy IPO market. The 2023 IPO market is closing with a whimper, not a bang. You'd think the IPO market would be bubbling, but it's dead quiet. Source: Renaissance Capital For a good part of the year, the excuse was interest rates were rising, the market was too volatile, and the after market performance of 2023 IPOs was terrible. The November rally is too little too late to save the IPO market Unfortunately, it all came a little too late to rescue 2023.

There is a wave of pandemic-era startups stuck in limbo right now. The days of seeing 80% to 100% year-on-year revenue growth are gone, Hussein Kanji from early-stage fund Hoxton Ventures told Business Insider. Hoxton Ventures' Hussein Kanji said the days of companies racking up 100% year-on-year revenue growth are over. Investors tend to assess whether a company is IPO-ready on the rule of 40, which is revenue growth plus EBIT margin. Kanji added: "This is a lesson for a lot of people – if the IPO window opens up, take the company public."

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Two people have been killed and dozens of homes destroyed in bushfires raging across Australia's northern Queensland state, as firefighters travel from across the country and from New Zealand to try and contain the out-of-control blazes. Residents have been told to evacuate from two massive bushfires in the southeast portion of Queensland, even as dozens of fires continue to burn across the state where at least 45 homes have been destroyed and two people killed since last week. "These are heartbreaking scenes when people lose their houses," Albanese said from the town of Bundaberg, near one of the large fires. Firefighters from the neighbouring state of Victoria and New Zealand were on their way to help, Albanese added. More than 7,500 hectares (18,500 acres) are burning out of control in the neighbouring state of New South Wales, only 40 kms (25 miles) from one of the Queensland fires.

China's increased appetite for thermal coal from Australia and Russia has led to a shift in imports by India, the world's second biggest coal buyer. From December to February India's imports of Australian thermal coal had been above 1 million metric tons per month, peaking in January at 1.79 million. In contrast India is turning back to thermal coal from Indonesia, with July arrivals of 6.87 million metric tons, up from 6.04 million in June. For July, Indonesia's share of India's thermal coal imports was 63%, which was the highest since the 65% in April. China and India both generally import Australian thermal coal of a lower energy value than the traditional buyers of Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

Jan 19 (Reuters) - For two months now, 23-year-old Russian Vladimir Maraktayev has been living in an airport departure lounge. After travelling on to the Philippines, he flew to South Korea on Nov. 12, hoping to receive refugee status in what he considered one of Asia’s most stable democracies. He applied for refugee status upon arrival, but South Korean authorities rejected his application on the grounds that fleeing conscription is not a valid reason to be given asylum. He said his days consist of taking walks around the airport lounge and trying to read books and study Korean. Though he has very little money, as Russian bank cards have largely stopped working outside a handful of countries, he receives food from the South Korean justice ministry.
India's share of Australian coal increased to 15.7% in 2022 from 12.3%, while Europe's share increased to 8% from 4.6%, the Kpler data showed. "Australian thermal coal is of better quality and is expensive. Global prices of both coking and thermal coal shot up after Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year. Analysts and traders expect the return of Australian coal to challenge the market share of suppliers such as Russia and add to pressure on prices in the longer term. "Entry of Australian coal into Chinese markets could ease coking coal prices, which are currently on the higher side," an Indian coal trader said.
The Ulan-Ude draft office and the defence ministry in Moscow did not reply to a request for comment on the situation. PROVINCIAL MOBILISATION"There’s nothing partial about the mobilisation in Buryatia," said Alexandra Garmazhapova, president of the Free Buryatia Foundation, an organisation that provides legal help to those mobilised. Her foundation collected hundreds of appeals for help from residents whose relatives had received mobilisation papers. One resident of the Buryatia village of Orongoi, whose population in 2010 was 1,700, told Reuters that 106 men from the village had been mobilised. "The federal centre is trying not to touch St Petersburg and Moscow, because in Moscow you can have protests against the Kremlin," she said.
