GDANSK, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Poland's competition watchdog has accused e-commerce firm Amazon's (AMZN.O) European unit of misleading sales and delivery practices, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) said on Wednesday. The office said consumers on Amazon's Polish website were misled as to the moment a sales contract is concluded, product availability, delivery times and consumer rights, which if proven could result in a penalty for Amazon EU of up to 10% of its turnover. The office noted that these terms were spelled out on the Amazon.pl website, but their legibility and placement made them difficult to read by consumers. According to the office, delivery guarantee terms with the option to receive a refund in case of delay were not easily available to consumers. UOKiK said it had launched an inquiry into the practices in Sept. 2021 following consumer complaints.

WARSAW, Jan 2 (Reuters) - Polish regulator UOKiK has accused the Polish unit of T-Mobile of misleading advertising relating to a free mobile data offer, with the company potentially facing a fine of 10% of annual revenue. "After reading the advertisement, the consumer should have a general, but realistic, idea of the presented offer," the head of UOKiK Tomasz Chrostny said in a statement. "The T-Mobile promotional slogan may suggest receiving a one-time data package of 1200 GB, and not a dozen or so smaller packages, provided that the fee is paid periodically." ☆ Allegro.eu's Polish unit fined $48 mln for violation of competition rules

GDANSK, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Poland's anti-monopoly office on Thursday fined the Polish unit of Luxembourg-based e-commerce group Allegro.eu (ALEP.WA) just over 210 million zlotys ($48 million), saying it had broken competition rules and violated its own terms and conditions. UOKiK also fined Allegro nearly 4 million zlotys on Thursday for terms violations. The company also said that 99% of sales on Allegro.pl were carried out by independent sellers and the remaining 1% through its own store. According to the investigation carried out by the watchdog, Allegro started favouring its own retail sales operations in May 2015. Shares in Allegro.eu retreated sharply from the day's highs following the news before climbing back to close up 2.5%.

WARSAW, Nov 23 (Reuters) - Polish regulator UOKiK has started proceedings against PayPal (PYPL.O) over possible prohibited contractual provisions, it said on Wednesday, adding that the possible fine could amount to 10% of the company's revenue. The regulator said it has doubts regarding the payments company's right to impose contractual penalties, such as blocking access to accounts, financial sanctions, or terminating contracts among others. UOKiK said that prohibited activities which could incur penalties were described in an unclear way and users may not understand exactly what was not allowed and what action the company could take in such cases. PayPal did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment. WARSAW, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Poland's consumer watchdog UOKiK has charged four banks, Bank Pocztowy, ING Bank Slaski (INGP.WA), Nest Bank and Santander Consumer Bank, for failing to deal appropriately with clients who report unauthorised transactions. According to UOKiK, clients of the banks failed to have money that had dissappeared from their accounts returned within the statuatory time period and received misleading responses to complaints. If found guilty, the banks could face fines of up to 10% of annual revenue. "Unfortunately... banks very often fail to meet the statutory obligation to return funds lost as a result of unauthorised transactions, and in addition they mislead consumers," the head of UOKiK, Tomasz Chrostny, said in a statement. WARSAW, Nov 21 (Reuters) - UOKiK will appeal a ruling that annulled fines it imposed on Russia's Gazprom (GAZP.MM) and five other companies responsible for building the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, the Polish regulator said on Monday. UOKiK in 2020 fined Gazprom more than 29 billion zlotys ($6.33 billion) for building the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline without Warsaw's approval. It also imposed a total fine of 234 million zloty spread across five other companies involved in financing the project. The other companies affected by the fines were Engie Energy (ENGIE.PA), Uniper (UN01.DE), OMV (OMVV.VI), Shell (SHEL.L) and Wintershall. Poland was a staunch opponent of the Nord Stream 2 project because it feared Russia could use energy supplies to exert influence over European countries.
