CNN —Argentine delegates at the COP29 United Nations climate summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, have been ordered to withdraw from negotiations and return home, according to a source at the country’s foreign ministry. He is expected to travel to the United States this week to attend a Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) summit at Mar-a-Lago, Florida. CNN —The White House is racing to dole out remaining funds appropriated from key legislation President Joe Biden signed before President-elect Donald Trump takes office in 10 weeks. The implementation efforts reflect one slice of how the Biden administration is working to shore up key initiatives as the second Trump presidency approaches. Speaking to reporters on Monday, the first official day at COP29, Podesta said the Biden administration is “fully committed” to obligating outstanding funding under Biden’s climate law, the Inflation Reduction Act. The UAE is hosting the COP28 climate change summit. The BBC reported it planned to make secret oil and gas deals. Among them, UAE COP28 planning officials intended to discuss liquefied natural gas development projects by UAE state energy firm Adnoc with China, the BBC reported. The UAE in a statement to the BBC did not deny that it planned on holding oil and gas deal talks, and said "private meetings are private." Leaders from nearly 200 countries are gathering in the UAE on Thursday for the COP28 summit.

CNN —The destruction of the world’s rainforests ramped up last year, despite global pledges to end deforestation by 2030, according to a new report. The country’s rate of forest loss rose 15% from 2021 to 2022. Bolivia saw a record-high level of primary forest loss last year, with a 32% increase compared to 2021. It came in third behind only Brazil and the Democratic Republic of the Congo for area of primary forest loss, the report found. Despite the global increase in deforestation, there has been a sharp reduction in forest loss in Indonesia and loss levels in Malaysia have remained low, according to the report.
