London CNN —Ryanair, Europe’s biggest airline, is going after unruly passengers on its flights and has filed for €15,000 ($15,400) in damages from a passenger who disrupted a flight last year. There have been several reports of disruptive behavior on Ryanair flights in recent years. In November, the UK’s Independent newspaper reported that a Ryanair flight was forced to alert authorities before landing in Tenerife, Spain after several passengers became disruptive and one person urinated in the aisle. A passenger who disrupted a Ryanair flight to Athens in 2020 was convicted last month in a Greek court and given a five-month suspended jail sentence, along with a €400 ($412) fine. “We plan to pursue civil action against disruptive passengers as a move towards eliminating disruptive passenger behaviour,” the spokesperson added.

CNN —Microsoft’s buzziest new AI feature is raising concerns that it could potentially be misused in the wrong hands. It’s different from a keyword search; the tool regularly saves screenshots of the user’s screen and stores them directly on the device. It then uses AI to process the data and make it searchable. Jen Golbeck – a professor of AI at the University of Maryland who focuses on privacy – said the recall feature could pose a potential “nightmare” if the device falls into the wrong hands. Still, Michela Menting, a senior research director at ABI Research, believes the feature is a “step backwards” for privacy.

As a former health minister, Hunt is familiar with the Hippocratic Oath’s principle of “first, do no harm.” That credo didn’t resonate with former finance minister Kwasi Kwarteng. The Institute for Fiscal Studies estimates that borrowing in the current financial year is running 31 billion pounds below the November forecast by the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), the UK’s independent fiscal watchdog. A further 6 billion pounds will freeze fuel duties, avoiding a 23% rise from April. In November, the OBR forecast that Downing Street would meet that goal with just 9.2 billion pounds to spare. That would still cost 11 billion pounds a year but would boost investment by 5% in the long run.
Some social media users are misrepresenting a 2020 report in a British newspaper on non-COVID deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic, claiming it is from 2022, as well as falsely implying the headline concerns vaccines. Users heavily imply the deaths are due to COVID-19 vaccines. However, the newspaper article is from Oct. 20, 2020 – well before Britain’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout, which began in December 2020 (here). The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO), the UK’s independent newspaper regulator, said the article only referred to the displacement of deaths from hospitals to people’s homes on continuation on page 6 of the newspaper. The headline is from 2020 and pre-dates COVID-19 vaccine rollouts.
