Scientists previously believed that a large asteroid broke apart within the solar system, creating the meteorites that hit Earth during the Ordovician Period. The space rock is commonly referred to as a “mini-moon” due to it coming within 2.8 million miles (4.5 million kilometers) of the planet. Also, the suggested Earth ring would have “had to be the result of the disruption of a much larger body as the authors indicate in their paper,” he added in an email, so the asteroid, likely about 37 feet (11 meters) in diameter, could not have made a new ring for Earth. However, “this ring formation event we think may have happened only once in the last 500 million years.”

But new research suggests that one English woman convicted of witchcraft and condemned to be hanged may have escaped the noose. Alice Molland – who has long held the tragic record of being the last woman in England to be hanged as a “witch” – was sentenced to death in 1685. In June 1685, Avis Molland – by now widowed – emerges in court records as an informant about a potential revolt, at a time when the Duke of Monmouth was attempting a rebellion against the king. Avis Molland died a free woman eight years later. Worland has spent 18 years unearthing victims’ details, and has successfully campaigned to have memorials to executed “witches” in Colchester and Chelmsford.

The Mary Rose was one of the largest warships of the Tudor navy during King Henry VIII’s reign until it sank on July 19, 1545, during a battle against the French. The Mary Rose was one of them, and the flagship became the king’s favorite. The hull of the Mary Rose, supported by a steel cradle attached to a lifting frame, was raised on October 11, 1982. The research team used Raman spectroscopy, a nondestructive method that preserves valuable samples, to study the bones, Shankland said. “Investigating the impact of this on the spine would further our understanding of bone chemistry changes with age, but also with stress from activity.”

A team of academics from Latin America and Europe set out to determine whether the frequency of exercise affects the risk of developing mild dementia. The finding led the team to conclude that 13% of cases of mild dementia could be avoided if all middle-aged people exercised at least once or twice a week. When compared with the group that did not exercise, the weekend warriors were 13% less likely to develop mild dementia, and those in the regular and combined groups were 12% less likely. I feel quite strongly that the weekend warriors around the world should be told that what they are doing is fine.”He added: “The weekend warrior research is starting to add up now.

Although storms are generally considered unstable, the Great Red Spot has persisted for nearly two centuries. Recently, a separate team of astronomers peered into the heart of the Great Red Spot using the James Webb Space Telescope to capture new details in infrared light.
