Martin O’Malley, a onetime presidential candidate and the commissioner of the Social Security Administration, kicked off the race by entering the fray. Minnesota Democratic Party Chair Ken Martin, a DNC vice chair and leader of the Association of State Democratic Committees, followed by formally announcing his candidacy Tuesday. Of course, these basic rules of political decorum are ones Donald Trump has rarely followed. He’s been accumulating political capital, and his victory only gives him an opening to accumulate more ... if he chooses to. On some level, I accept the notion that one person’s revenge is another person’s “reform,” so I’m sure Trump could argue he’s appointing reformists. What will ultimately matter is whether these folks can govern like reformers or end up simply as conduits for Trump’s revenge. Here’s the political problem Trump is creating for himself: He’s taking full ownership of the entire bureaucracy now.

Miller was a powerful White House aide in Trump’s first term, authoring much of his most fiery scripted rhetoric as a speechwriter. Yet despite these draconian visions, there’s uncertainty about how far Trump will go in his deportation program and whether it matches his dystopian speeches. Many Democrats and Republicans could agree on Trump’s vow to start by deporting criminal undocumented migrants — the easiest part of his plan. Trump’s critics and vulnerable undocumented migrants, however, will find little in the president-elect’s new staff picks to offer them comfort. The vice president also proposes reforms to improve the lives of working Americans — but hers are less revolutionary than Trump’s. If she loses Pennsylvania, Harris would need a combination of other swing states, including Georgia, Nevada and Arizona, where poll averages also show no clear leader. But the findings, which suggested a shift toward Harris from the previous Iowa Poll in September, also showed the vice president with a strong advantage among women. Ahead of Donald Trump’s Tuesday appearance in the heavily Latino city of Allentown, Pennsylvania, a comedian’s racist joke about Puerto Ricans at the former president’s Madison Square Garden rally drew fresh blowback. “However, the other five million who live in the United States, whom they also labeled as trash, can vote.”One of those five million Puerto Rican voters is Allentown resident Efraín Dávila. Hinchcliffe made his racist jokes in an election cycle in which Republicans have said they are messaging to Latinos as Americans. But the comedian at his rally attacked Puerto Ricans, who are American citizens at birth, not immigrants, said Mike Madrid, a Republican consultant who opposes Trump. Madrid added that it is more difficult to waive off the comedian’s racist jokes, because they did not come from Trump.

The Republican Party we saw in Milwaukee this past week has been fundamentally changed.
