“He views himself as a big guy,” John Bolton, who served as national security adviser under Trump, told me. Trump lamented that Hitler, as Kelly recounted, maintained his senior staff’s “loyalty,” while Trump himself often did not. “He truly believed, when he brought us generals in, that we would be loyal — that we would do anything he wanted us to do,” Kelly told me. ‘Shocked that he didn’t have dictatorial-type powers’Trump’s former advisers say he most consistently lavished praise on Russian President Vladimir Putin. At a town hall organized by Fox News in July 2023, Trump said, “Think of President Xi: central casting, brilliant guy.

Who Has Made It to the First Republican Debate So Far? At least seven candidates appear to have made the cut so far for the first Republican presidential debate on Aug. 23. To participate, each candidate must first satisfy fund-raising and polling criteria set by the Republican National Committee. But even though Mr. Trump is clearly the dominant Republican candidate so far, he has remained noncommittal about attending the debate and questioned his need to share the stage with candidates who lag far behind him in the polls. As for the remaining hopefuls, they have three weeks left to scrape together the necessary donors and polling support.

WASHINGTON, March 28 (Reuters) - A federal judge has ruled that former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence must testify to a grand jury about conversations he had with former President Donald Trump leading up to January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to media reports. In a ruling that remains under seal, the judge also said that Pence can still decline to answer questions related to Jan. 6, CNN reported, citing unnamed sources, adding that Pence can still appeal the ruling. NBC separately reported the judge's split decision citing sources familiar with the ruling, saying it compels Trump former vice president to appear before the federal grand jury but shields him from testifying about Jan. 6, 2021. Pence, who is exploring a challenge to Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, is fighting a grand jury subpoena to secure his testimony, sources have told Reuters. In October a federal judge sentenced the 68-year-old political strategist to four months in prison. The judge, who also fined him $6,500, allowed him to defer serving his sentence while he pursued appeals. Bannon, who served as Trump's chief White House strategist in 2017, helped articulate the "America First" populism and stout opposition to immigration that in part defined Trump's presidency. Bannon has also played an instrumental role in conservative media and has promoted right-wing causes and candidates in the United States and abroad.
