President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday named Linda McMahon, a former World Wrestling Entertainment executive who served in the first Trump administration, as his pick to lead the Education Department. Before joining the first Trump administration, McMahon briefly served on the Connecticut State Board of Education in 2009, and made unsuccessful bids in 2010 and 2012 for U.S. Senate seats in the state. CNN first reported on McMahon as Trump’s pick for education secretary. McMahon is also the latest Cabinet pick from Trump’s transition team. Earlier Tuesday he named Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick, who is co-chairing his transition alongside McMahon, as his choice for commerce secretary.

Both Musk and America PAC have vocally encouraged swing-state voter registration ahead of the mandatory deadlines. Over the weekend, X repurposed the account handle “@america,” which used to belong to a different account, for Musk’s America PAC. The account has since promoted the pro-Constitution petition, swing-state voter registration and the $47 offer. Musk’s America PAC was formed in May and has previously stoked controversy with its unusual tactics to encourage swing-state voter registration.

In December, I wrote about the moral devolution of Rudy Giuliani and of the other MAGA men and women who have populated the highest echelons of the Trump movement. I live in the heart of MAGA country, and Donald Trump is the single most culturally influential person here. It is common for those outside the Trump movement to describe their aunts or uncles or parents or grandparents as “lost.” They mean their relatives’ lives are utterly dominated by Trump, Trump’s media and Trump’s grievances. But never before have I seen extremism penetrate a vast American community so deeply, so completely and so comprehensively. They went from least likely to most likely to excuse the immoral behavior of politicians.

This is the first time a former American president has been arraigned on federal charges.
