WASHINGTON — Donald Trump is suing Ann Selzer, her polling firm, The Des Moines Register and the newspaper's parent company, Gannett, accusing them of consumer fraud, according to a copy of the filing reviewed by NBC News. The suit, filed Monday night in Polk County, Iowa, says it seeks “accountability for brazen election interference” over a Nov. 2 poll that showed Kamala Harris up 3 percentage points in Iowa. Selzer announced after the election that she would stop polling political contests and move into other ventures. The suit is the latest front in Trump's campaign against coverage by the media and analysts that he perceives as biased. Rick Hasen, an election law expert at UCLA School of Law, immediately dismissed the lawsuit.

Opinion The Editorial Board ThePresident’sArsenalIn the United States, only the president can decide whether to use nuclear weapons. On the campaign trail, Mr. Trump commented on the peril posed by the rest of the world’s growing nuclear arsenals. This article is part of the Opinion series At the Brink, about the threat of nuclear weapons in an unstable world. Now it will be the job of President Trump to pull the world back from the brink. Referring to Mr. Putin, Mr. Trump said in 2023, “He goes, ‘You know, we’re a great nuclear power.’ He says that publicly now.” Mr. Trump added, falsely: “He never said that when I was here.

In the exit polls, about 1 in 8 voters who described Trump as “too extreme” still voted for him. Likewise, in the VoteCast survey, Trump won 1 in 6 voters who expressed concern that he would steer the country in an authoritarian direction. Trump won almost exactly the same share of voters who said in the VoteCast survey that he lacks the moral character to serve as president. Even among the voter groups most directly affected by these policies, Trump won substantial support from people who disagreed with him. In either case, the result was that Trump won far too many voters who supported legal abortion for Harris to prevail.

Interviews with more than a dozen individuals who worked with Patel shed new light on his path to power. After joining the White House as a member of the National Security Council, Patel became known as an aggressive colleague, sources say, often clashing with others. “The (FBI) director leads an agency that’s going after Russian and Chinese spies, mobsters, kidnappers,” one source familiar with the transition’s discussions about the FBI job told CNN. Earl Matthews, a former Trump official who worked with Patel in the White House, said he brings a unique resume to the job. ‘Why is Kash here?’By 2019, after Republicans lost their House majority, Nunes worked to make good on his promise to help Patel get to the White House.

The aides were concerned Gabbard might leak the name of the defector, who had hidden his identity out of fear of reprisals from the Assad regime. In the past, Caesar had spoken privately to members of Congress without his face covered when Gabbard was not present. The Assad regime brutally crushed peaceful political protests in 2011, firing on unarmed demonstrators and carrying out mass arrests and torture. As the war intensified, Gabbard’s sympathetic statements about the Russian-backed Assad regime raised eyebrows and alarmed her colleagues. “She basically completely adopted the Assad regime propaganda, where she suggested falsely that the U.S. was supporting terrorist extremists in Syria, and didn’t mention that the Assad regime had been slaughtering fellow Syrians there,” the former official said.

Weeks after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropped out of the presidential race in August and endorsed Donald Trump, the Trump campaign paid a California law firm that lists Kennedy among its lawyers, according to Federal Election Commission records. The Trump campaign — now known as Never Surrender Inc. — disbursed $100,000 to “JW Howard Attorneys” on Sept. 13, just three weeks after Kennedy bowed out of the race and backed Trump, FEC records show. The Trump campaign made no other payments to JW Howard Attorneys during the 2023-24 election cycle, according to FEC records. JW Howard did not receive payments from any other campaign or committee as of mid-October 2024, according to the records. The Trump transition team, a spokesperson for Kennedy and JW Howard did not respond to requests for comment.

That won’t happen for another 45 days, but Donald Trump, the president-in-waiting, isn’t shying away from acting like the president-in-reality. But the Louisiana Republican on Thursday put his finger on one of President-elect Donald Trump’s greatest challenges. He delivered the smallest House majority since the Great Depression. Trump will need to manage Republican power more effectively in Washington than he did in his first term. The 2016 election gave Republicans a House majority of nearly 50 seats. In a House majority limited to a handful of seats, every lawmaker becomes a kingmaker.

But Wall Street doesn’t believe the looming immigration crackdown will live up to Trump’s campaign trail hype. Nearly half of the investors anticipate annual immigration will average between 500,000 and 1 million under Trump, according to Goldman Sachs. The Wall Street bank found that more than 20% of investors expect immigration under Trump will be above the pre-pandemic pace of 1 million per year. “Our forecast is only moderately below the pre-pandemic trend because there are legal and logistical limits to executive action,” Goldman Sachs economists led by Jan Hatzius wrote in the report. “Y.M.C.A.” singer and co-writer Victor Willis of the band Village People defended President-elect Donald Trump’s use of the song Monday on Facebook. Willis denied that the disco tune was intended as a “gay anthem,” saying he “knew nothing about the Y being a hang out for gays” when he wrote the lyrics. Willis said he wrote “Y.M.C.A.” based on what he knew about the worldwide youth organization at the time, particularly the YMCA branches in the urban areas of San Francisco. Willis said he has received more than 1,000 complaints about the use of “Y.M.C.A” at Trump’s campaign rallies. Data suggests the staple campaign moment drove the song up the charts, with search interest and listenership soaring on Election Day.

The package was worth around $56 billion at the time the judge threw out the package. “The large and talented group of defense firms got creative with the ratification argument, but their unprecedented theories go against multiple strains of settled law,” McCormick wrote in a scathing opinion. “There were undoubtedly a range of healthy amounts that the Board could have decided to pay Musk,” she wrote.

On Tuesday, Trump’s transition team signed an agreement with the White House after months of postponing the traditional transition process – a delay that Biden officials warned could undermine an orderly transfer of power and pose national security risks. In a statement announcing the agreement, the Trump transition said it will use its own security and information systems, its own office spaces and maintain its own ethics plan. The transition team said its ethics plan will be posted online in compliance with federal law. Several of Trump’s picks have vast personal fortunes and deep ties to the private sector. Trump’s transition team has so far relied instead on internal vetting.

— As President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration solidifies its plan for mass deportations, local law enforcement agencies are preparing to ramp up a controversial program that allows them to partner with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It authorizes ICE to delegate to state and local law enforcement officers the ability to perform certain functions of an immigration officer. According to ICE, as of May 2024, law enforcement agencies in 21 states participated in the program. Other critics have also said the 287(g) program merely serves as a political messaging tool for conservative sheriffs. Coming off a decisive victory on Nov. 5, Trump has moved swiftly to build out the Cabinet and a senior White House team that will execute his plans. “The thing to realize is Trump is no dummy,” said Stephen Moore, a senior economic adviser in Trump’s campaign. Noem campaigned for Trump, though a person close to Trump was surprised he tapped her for the job.

DETROIT — Stellantis is delaying the launch of its Ram electric pickup trucks from this year until the first half of 2025, as the trans-Atlantic automaker continues testing the vehicles. CEO Carlos Tavares on Tuesday declined to disclose details about what caused the delays or specific timing on the electric trucks, which include an all-electric “REV” model and an extended-range “Ramcharger” that’s equipped with an electric generator and a gas engine. Stellantis’ upcoming electric pickups are the first that will be built on the company’s new “STLA Frame platform” for its larger trucks and Jeep SUVs. It is expected to be a “multi-energy platform” that’s capable of internal combustion engines and hybrids, as well as electric models using batteries, fuel cells and range-extended electric propulsion systems. Doing so would deliver on Trump’s campaign comments about removing such incentives and EV initiatives.
