Activist investor Jana Partners disclosed in a letter Monday that it has built a "significant" position in semiconductor manufacturer Wolfspeed and urged the company to resolve what it called a "staggering erosion of shareholder value," up to and including a sale. In the letter to Wolfspeed's board, viewed by CNBC, Jana wrote that the semiconductor company's "differentiated manufacturing capabilities" and status as an "American supplier supporting the energy transition" gave it significant intrinsic value. Jana also wrote that management's missteps around capital allocation, execution and strategy had depressed the stock. Wolfspeed, formerly known as Cree, is a supplier of electronic components and semiconductors used to manage electricity, often in cars. Jana said Wolfspeed's board should "promptly" begin a comprehensive review of the business, up to and including a sale.

There could still be further gains ahead for tech stocks, even as the sector boosted the S & P 500 to a new record-high closing last Friday. After kicking off the new year with a lukewarm start, the technology sector turned the ship around, largely driven by the ongoing artificial intelligence frenzy . Despite these gains, broader analyst consensus indicates that there are still tech stocks poised to go higher from here. Likewise, analysts on average think design software company Synopsys could rally another 18%. Last week, the company announced it would acquire engineering simulation software company Ansys in an approximately $35 billion deal .

“Representative Santos sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit,” the report concluded. Ethics panel concludes sexual harassment allegation against Santos was not substantiatedThe House Ethics panel said there was not substantial evidence to support a sexual harassment allegation brought against Santos. But the report also indicates that there was some tension between the overlapping DOJ criminal probe and House ethics probe. The ethics panel reached out to the Justice Department to deconflict their investigations, and top DOJ officials asked them in March to pause the ethics probe. The House report says DOJ’s “deferral requests” prevented them from getting to the bottom of certain allegations.

Republican Rep. George Santos announced he will not seek reelection to the House next year, following the Ethics Committee’s release of its long-awaited report on Thursday, concluding that there is “substantial evidence” that the New York congressman used campaign funds for personal purposes. The committee said it uncovered additional “uncharged and unlawful conduct” by Santos that go beyond the criminal allegations already pending against him, and would immediately refer these allegations to the Justice Department for further investigation. Everyone who participated in this grave miscarriage of Justice should all be ashamed of themselves,” Santos wrote of the report in a post on X. Santos has remained defiant in the face of the mounting legal issues he faces. This story and headline have been updated with additional developments.

In business, that meant building a fortune by hyping a drug that ultimately failed. In politics, it means arguing he can return Trump's “America First” vision to the White House without the baggage. Ramaswamy majored in biology and participated in the campus Republican club, standing out even there as a libertarian. “I believe Donald Trump was an excellent president,” Ramaswamy said while campaigning in Atlanta. In Iowa, where evangelical Christians dominate the first-in-the-nation Republican presidential caucuses, Rowland and other pastors are delivering a message meant to resonate both biblically and politically. While curbing abortion has for decades energized Christian conservatives like no other issue, the attack by Hamas and Israel's response have put new pressure on Republican candidates to hew not just to traditional Republican support for Israel but to beliefs rooted in the Bible. Some Christians support Israel due to Old Testament writings that Jews are God’s chosen people and that Israel is their rightful homeland. Some evangelicals believe Israel is key to an end-times prophecy that will bring about the return of the Christian messiah. Daniel Hummel, author of “Covenant Brothers: Evangelicals, Jews, and U.S.-Israeli Relations," said that Republican support for Israel has become a proxy for other conservative priorities, particularly on immigration.

Although some experts have more recently backed off those earlier predictions of an impending recession and embraced the idea of soft landing, "that's been the most consensus we've seen," he added. Russell and Tunkel pointed to falling launch costs, continued demand for satellites and India's recent moon landing as reasons to be excited about the future for the space industry. The most successful of these funds, both by total assets and performance this year, is Cathy Wood's Ark Space Exploration & Innovation ETF (ARKX) . The ARK fund takes a broad approach to finding space stocks. The Ark fund even has some stocks that are only tangentially related to space, at least for now, like Amazon and Google-parent Alphabet . For investors looking for a more narrow approach, BCA described the Procure Space ETF (UFO) as the "purest play on space exploration."

A new report from the Pew Research Center shows most Americans support NASA but not a moon mission. But the specific priorities of the US space program have often been at odds with public opinion. Although somewhat at odds with the national space agenda, this valuation is not new. In addition, the United Nations' open-ended working group on reducing space threats has been meeting since 2022 to help avoid conflict in space. Countries have been working within the United Nations to develop and implement guidelines for the long-term sustainability of outer space activities.

What had started as a diary of hair styles and piercings grew into a conceptual art project as Echeverri evolved as an artist. “I don’t want to overburden the work,” says Tillmans, who prefers to see it as Echeverri was: sly, cerebral and self-deprecating. The exhibit in New York also includes “Identidad Payasa” (2017), a series of double portraits where the artist shared the lens with street clowns in Mexico City. First, Echeverri would take their photos in full costume, then ask the clowns to recreate the look on him, a way of embodying their position. Tillmans says the photos show how much Echeverri empathized with the clowns — they were both artists, putting on a visual performance and wearing masks.
