Read previewThe Greek government responded to backlash about its new six-day workweek policy and said the regulation doesn't change the current workweek, according to a CNBC report published Tuesday. "It is important to note that this new regulation does not in any way affect the established 5-day/40-hour working week mandated by Greek law, nor does it establish a new 6-day working week," Greek Minister of Labour and Social Security Niki Kerameus told CNBC. AdvertisementBut Kerameus said the extra working day is only applicable in situations of increased workload, the report said. Employees who work the extra hours will see a 40% jump in pay for that time. Kerameus said the law also provides more protection for workers, like guaranteed days off, set working hours, and measures to prevent wrongful termination, the report said.

CNN —After spending his days making wine in the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains, Tsotne Jafaridze returns home to Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital, and begins his new routine. Jafaridze, who also owns a travel business and says he receives 95% of his income from foreign sources, says he would “immediately” be listed as a foreign agent under the broadly-written law. But the government reintroduced the same bill in March and appears determined to force it through, despite protests that grow fiercer every week. Despite recent Russian aggression against Georgia, Georgian Dream has long been accused of harboring pro-Russian sympathies and its billionaire founder, Bidzina Ivanishvili, made his fortune in the Soviet Union. But instead of crashing, Uber has seemingly defied the odds thanks to Kalanick's successor, Dara Khosrowshahi. New York CNN —Is Wall Street’s favorite clique of tech stocks in need of a makeover? Most of the Magnificent Seven stocks have reclaimed their leadership of the market this year, with shares of Nvidia, Meta Platforms, Alphabet and Microsoft reaching record highs. Many investors are skeptical that the Magnificent Seven will match their blockbuster gains from 2023, even if they continue their leadership this year. Jim Worden, chief investment officer at the Wealth Consulting Group, says he believes the group should consolidate to the “Fab Five,” which he classifies as the Magnificent Seven minus Tesla and Apple. “There is a big leadership change underway in the Magnificent Seven stocks,” wrote Louis Navellier, chairman of Navellier & Associates, in a note on Tuesday.

Not only have theme park visits gotten more expensive, but so have Disney’s cruise vacations, souvenirs and the company’s streaming services. Over the summer, Disney quietly raised the prices at two of the adult-exclusive restaurants on board its cruise ships to $135 per person for dinner, a nudge up of $10, according to the Disney Cruise Line Blog. But one thing is certain: being a Disney fan has never been more expensive. Passengers stand on the deck of Disney Dream, a Disney Cruise Lines' ship, as it sails to the Bahamas on August 9, 2021. TravelPerkBarcelona-based startup TravelPerk, which helps automate corporate travel and expenses, has raised $104 million in fresh funding from Japanese tech investing giant SoftBank and a flood of other names, to invest in artificial intelligence development and new products. SoftBank invested $70 million in TravelPerk's latest round, which the company said was an extension of its "D-1" funding round. The fundraising round shows SoftBank is placing a major bet on a company driving disruption in corporate travel through new technologies, such as AI — which has seen significant buzz since the November 2022 launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT. Whereas many travel agents operate on low single digits gross margins, Meir says that TravelPerk's profit margin stood at 60% last year. TravelPerk competes with American Express, BCD Travel, SAP Concur and Navan in the corporate travel management space.

Nov 9 (Reuters) - Baltimore's former top prosecutor Marilyn Mosby was found guilty of perjury on Thursday for falsely claiming financial duress to withdraw funds from a retirement plan. A U.S. District Court jury in Greenbelt, Maryland, convicted Mosby, 42, on both federal perjury counts she faced after hours of deliberation. Mosby, a Democrat, lost her bid for a third term after she was indicted on federal charges in January 2022. Mosby's defense team argued in court that she did not lie in stating financial hardship because her private travel business took a hit during the pandemic. None of the six officers charged in his death was convicted.

When it was raising fresh money from investors in 2020, one slide on the pitch deck for the hedge fund Schonfeld Strategic Advisors got to the heart of the issue: "Why Schonfeld?" A hedge fund recruiterAmid the weakness, the fund has begun to prune costs. Steve Schonfeld (class of 1977) and Brad Tolkin (class of 1976) attended Roslyn High School in Roslyn Heights, New York. Tolkin told Insider in 2019 that the firm's goal was no less than becoming "the premier equities hedge fund globally." While Steven Schonfeld's 20% annual-return goals would've been ambitious for any sizable hedge fund, returns have also lagged behind peers.

Estee Lauder (EL): We're downgrading Estee Lauder to a 2 rating Wednesday, meaning we're no longer recommending investors buy the stock at current levels. But we're sticking with Estee Lauder because eventually we expect China's economy to turn around, and with it EL's stock price. The semiconductor firm, which has seen its stock price nearly triple this year, is reportedly considering taking a long-term stake in chip designer Arm Holdings.

A row of United Airlines passenger planes parked at gates at Denver International Airport in Denver, Colorado. United Airlines plans to beef up its schedule and add new lounges at Denver International Airport, the carrier's bet that demand for flights at its fastest-growing hub will keep rising. United said Tuesday that it will add 35 flights at the Colorado airport this year. The airline's Denver service this summer will average 450 daily departures, a spokeswoman said. Last year, United opened a grab-and-go mini lounge at Denver aimed at travelers connecting to other flights.
NEW YORK, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Fears of recession and the impact of inflation on consumer budgets could curb a rebound in travel demand reported by U.S. travel companies in the fourth quarter, although bookings are holding up so far this year, analysts said. U.S. travel spending in December 2022 totaled $97 billion, 3% above 2019 levels and 7% above 2021 levels, according to the U.S. Travel Association. The demand contrasts with declining home improvement sales and other discretionary purchases that have hurt furniture stores and retailers like Home Depot. International travel spurred demand growth for Airbnb and Marriott International Inc (MAR.O) in the fourth quarter. Group bookings are still down 15% compared to pre-pandemic levels, while headwinds in several industries continue to affect business travel, said Truist's Scholes.
Rental car giant Hertz reported fourth-quarter earnings that were better than Wall Street expected, on renewed demand for travel as the Covid-19 pandemic eased in many parts of the world. That profit also beat estimates, as analysts polled by Refinitiv had expected earnings of $3.67 on revenue of $8.7 billion, on average. As of the end of 2022, Hertz had $2.5 billion of total liquidity available, including $943 million in cash. The key story is that Hertz is making these incremental operating improvements as demand for travel recovers, Scherr said. Those trends continued in January, Scherr said, with corporate travel business up 28% from the same month in 2022 and inbound travel up 56%.

The data offered the first official snapshot of the manufacturing sector after China removed the world's strictest COVID restrictions in early December. Weakening external demand on the back of growing global recession fears amid rising interest rates, inflation and the war in Ukraine may further slow China's exports, hurting its massive manufacturing sector and hampering the economic recovery. The official composite PMI, which combines manufacturing and services, declined to 42.6 from 47.1. The official manufacturing PMI largely focuses on big and state-owned firms. The private sector Caixin manufacturing PMI, which centres more on small firms and coastal regions, will be published on Jan. 3.
Airlines are drawing up plans to expand their services but ordinary Chinese and travel agencies suggest that a return to anything like normal will take some time. But an immediate surge in international travel is not widely expected. According to VariFlight data, international flights to and from China are at 8% of pre-pandemic levels. Weighing on many people's travel plans is the wave of COVID-19 infections now sweeping China, Liu said. One of the fastest bouncebacks is expected to be in international business travel.
