As the oldest GenZers reach marrying age in their mid-20s, they’re increasingly putting their own spin on nuptials, which includes letting go of some antiquated traditions. The Knot, a top wedding planning and wedding vendor marketplace, surveyed more than 9,000 couples in the US who either took the plunge last year, or are planning to in 2024, to understand evolving approaches that couples are taking to wedding planning. In terms of the total cost of the wedding, couples said they spent an average of $35,000 on their ceremony and reception in 2023, up from an average of $30,000 the prior year, according to The Knot. “Millennials and Gen Z are getting very creative in making these celebrations their own in new and interesting ways,” Chi said. Candles instead of flowers on the tables added elegance and also helped control costs, Dylan said.

For reasons no one can quite decipher, the legal soap “Suits,” which aired on USA from 2011-2019, has become the show of the summer. While it was popular enough when it aired, I’ve read more “Suits” articles in the last few weeks than during the show’s entire run. The show is a hit on Netflix, but if you are on your “Suits” journey right now, note that the ninth and final season is in fact not on Netflix — though it is on Peacock and Amazon. Perhaps you’re thinking, “Wow, if only there were a spinoff to ‘Suits,’ surely everyone would want in on that.” Well, there is a spinoff to “Suits,” called “Pearson,” which follows Gina Torres’s character, Jessica Pearson, on her next legal endeavor. But in a perfect snapshot of the inane and hostile world of streaming, “Pearson” is not streaming on any platform.

Now, in their next step to consolidate power, they are trying to manipulate the national elections that are underway. In anticipation of the 2023 elections, President Alejandro Giammattei packed the courts and the electoral tribunal with loyalists. The ruling regime and its allies then enlisted these entities to distort the Constitution and tamper with election procedures to tilt the political playing field in their favor. Many fear the ruling could pave the way for additional spurious challenges that could eventually overturn the results, delay the second round or exclude Mr. Arévalo from competing altogether. The cries of fraud echo those in the United States after President Biden’s 2020 victory, although, with the entire judicial system on their side, Guatemala’s election deniers stand a better chance of pulling it off.
