A top Amazon executive told CNBC Thursday that it's a "myth" that robots and other technologies take jobs away from people. Stefano La Rovere, director of global robotics, mechatronics, and sustainable packaging at Amazon, said that, rather than replacing jobs, advanced robotics, artificial intelligence, and other technologies are enhancing people's roles. "It is a myth that technology and robots take out jobs," La Rovere told CNBC's "Street Signs Europe" on Thursday. Amazon says that the introduction of new technologies has enhanced more than 50,000 jobs across its fulfilment centers in Europe.

Amazon is now giving managers leeway to effectively fire employees who fail to meet the company's three-times-a-week, return-to-office mandate. That's according to updated global manager guidance on Amazon's return-to-office policy obtained by Insider. The guidelines tell managers to first hold a private conversation with employees who don't comply with the three-times-a-week requirement. Giving managers the ability to fire employees for non-compliance is the strongest measure Amazon has taken over its return-to-office policy. In February, Amazon said that corporate employees would have to come into the office at least three times a week starting in May.

Non-endemic advertisers have been a crucial part of Amazon's ability to expand its ad business more broadly, which totaled $38 billion in 2022. Last year, Amazon made custom ads for DraftKings with "TNF" analysts Ryan Fitzpatrick and Richard Sherman previewing a same-game betting parlay. The matchup will be shown for free on Prime Video, offering advertisers a wider audience than those with an Amazon Prime membership (Amazon ended 2022 with 168 million members , according to CIRP). In another move that will have big implications for some advertisers, Amazon is exploring dynamic advertising, a more targeted form of messaging that's tailored to the individual (i.e. Beyond non-endemic ads featuring "TNF" talent, fans can also expect to see more spots featuring themes of gender equality.

Some Amazon employees are upset about the company's new RTO mandate. Amazon is famous for using data to make decisions — except when it's forcing employees back to the office. Hopkins's comments have added to rising frustration among some Amazon employees over the company's return-to-office mandate. Following Hopkins's meeting, Amazon employees took to internal Slack channels to vent their concerns. Another suspected Amazon was intentionally hiding data, and said the RTO mandate was in conflict with the company's "Earth's best employer" commitment.

If you're thinking about starting an e-commerce business, you need to first pick a product to sell. That's essentially what Reeves did when he first started selling wallets. Another pro tip from Walter: Consider selling products that are durable — things that likely won't break in transit. Plus, you'll have an advantage if you're selling a product you understand well and use personally. "Looking around at your own life and your own day-to-day is a good way of coming up with product ideas."

Lina Khan takes on her longtime targetIn 2017, Lina Khan, then a 29-year-old law student, shot to fame with an academic article about why Amazon should be contained. Cutting against prevailing trends in antitrust law, Khan argued that the e-commerce giant was unfairly dominating huge swaths of the American economy. Now the chair of the F.T.C., Ms. Khan has finally taken on Amazon, though her agency’s new lawsuit against the company isn’t focused on antitrust. “Amazon tricked and trapped people into recurring subscriptions without their consent,” Ms. Khan said. wants the courts to stop Amazon from engaging in those practices and impose a financial penalty.

The FTC filed a new lawsuit accusing Amazon of "tricking" customers into joining Prime. Prime subscriptions cost $14.99 a month and generate $25 billion in revenue each year, the complaint said. The company "knowingly duped millions of consumers into unknowingly enrolling in its Amazon Prime service," the FTC said in its complaint filed in federal court in Washington state. "Specifically, Amazon used manipulative, coercive, or deceptive user-interface designs known as 'dark patterns' to trick consumers into enrolling in automatically-renewing Prime subscriptions," the agency alleged. Prime members tend to buy more and shop more frequently at Amazon, driving higher sales and a more loyal customer base for the retail giant.

How do you make proper eye contact with someone on a screen? The best place to conduct a virtual interview is a room that's clean, quiet and has good acoustics, Jeff Hyman, CEO of Recruit Rockstars, says. As for decorations, "if you would think twice about having something behind you in a cubicle at an office, then you probably shouldn't have it up during a job interview," Augustine says. Surprisingly, technical difficulties did not make the list of virtual interview deal-breakers.
The FTC declined Amazon's request to quash or limit subpoenas served to its executives over the agency's investigation into the Prime sign-up and cancellation process. The Federal Trade Commission has ruled against Amazon's request to quash or limit subpoenas served to top Amazon executives including founder Jeff Bezos and CEO Andy Jassy over the agency's investigation into the Prime sign-up process. In a previous filing, Amazon disclosed that some of its top executives, including founder Jeff Bezos and CEO Andy Jassy, were subpoenaed as part of the probe. Amazon has cooperated with the FTC throughout the investigation and already produced tens of thousands of pages of documents. The filing broadly cites Insider's story from March that first reported about Amazon's internal deliberations over the Prime sign-up and cancellation process.
California is suing Amazon accusing it of anticompetitive conduct. The lawsuit says Amazon coerces third-party sellers into agreeing not to sell their products cheaper anywhere else. The suit seeks to stop Amazon from enforcing contracts that restrict the prices sellers can set for their products off Amazon. In response to the lawsuit an Amazon spokesperson told Insider: "Sellers set their own prices for the products they offer in our store." This isn't the first time Amazon has been accused of anticompetitive conduct in relation to third-party sellers.
