SINGAPORE — Chinese tech giant Tencent is increasingly leveraging its WeChat super-app ecosystem to set itself apart from dominant global cloud service players, Tencent Cloud CEO Dowson Tong said. Super app platforms are often developed using cloud infrastructure to provide scalability, reliability, and efficient resource management. For example, Cambodia's Canadia Bank partnered with Tencent Cloud to launch a new mobile banking app in 2023. For instance, Amazon specializes in e-commerce, cloud services, and streaming, but does not have a single app integrating these services. Similarly, Microsoft offers enterprise solutions such as Office 365 and gaming, but lacks a comprehensive consumer-facing super app.

Newly public child care services provider KinderCare Learning has a standout strategy that could boost its profits well into the future, according to Goldman Sachs. Goldman Sachs led the KinderCare initial public offering at $24 a share last month. The company also serves families across all income demographics, including those that get subsidies for child care, which broadens its addressable market. Goldman estimates the domestic child care industry is worth about $76 billion, and predicts it should grow at an annual rate of about 6% long term. Tong expects KinderCare revenue to top that, rising between 6% and 9%, as it makes acquisitions of smaller providers and further cements its advantages as a large-scale player.

The five, who were University of Michigan students at the time, were not charged for what happened at Camp Grayling in August 2023. In summer 2023, the five were confronted after midnight near a lake by a sergeant major with the Utah National Guard. A check of his external hard drive revealed two images of military vehicles taken on the same night of the encounter with the National Guard officer, the FBI said. They mentioned the National Guard officer but referred to him only as “the soldier,” a camper or “nice guy,” according to the criminal complaint. In 2020, two Chinese nationals who were pursuing master’s degrees at the University of Michigan were sentenced to prison for illegally photographing sites at a naval air station in Key West, Florida.

Shanghai — It’s less furry than a traditional companion, but a six-legged Chinese robot “guide dog” could one day help vision impaired people live with more independence, according to its research development team in Shanghai. The robot dog, which is currently being field-tested, is able to navigate its physical environment via cameras and sensors, including recognizing traffic light signals, which traditional guide dogs are unable to do. “If this robot guide dog comes onto the market and I could use it, at least it could solve some of my problems in traveling alone,” Li said. In China, there are just over 400 guide dogs for almost 20 million blind people, Gao said. “I think this could be a very large market, because there might be tens of millions of people in the world who need guide dogs.”

Direct-ascent anti-satellite missiles are fired from Earth to take out a satellite target in space. Since then, China is believed by analysts to have conducted multiple, nondestructive missile tests that could advance its ability to target satellites. Illustration by CNNThat’s because the US has done extensive non-offensive testing of technologies to approach and rendezvous with satellites, including close approaches of its own military satellites and several Russian and Chinese military satellites, SWF says. Truong My Lan, a Vietnamese real estate tycoon, was sentenced to death on Thursday for her role in a financial fraud case, in a major display of the ruling Communist Party’s resolve to crack down on corruption. The trial for Ms. Lan, who was the chairwoman of the real estate developer Van Thinh Phat Group, was part of the government’s campaign against corruption. The leader of Vietnam’s Communist Party, Nguyen Phu Trong, has sought for years to stamp out corruption as the nation emerges as a major manufacturing hub and as one of Asia’s fastest-growing economies. Mr. Trong launched the anti-corruption drive in 2016, saying that graft could threaten the survival of the Communist Party, which has governed the country for nearly half a century. The campaign has led to the downfall of many business leaders and top officials, including former President Vo Van Tong, who resigned in March amid corruption allegations.
