Mahomes vs. Allen, Round 8The NFL schedulers probably should have made this the Sunday night contest. The Bears rank seventh against the pass, have allowed only 18.6 points per game (seventh-best) and have 16 takeaways (also seventh). Foes do find it hard to run on Baltimore, which gives up an NFL-low 73.0 rushing yards per game. They are holding opponents to a league-best 13.1 points per game, and haven’t allowed more than 20 points in any game this season. So this matchup will be a good measuring stick for the Chargers’ defense, while proving whether Herbert and company can win in a shootout if necessary.

After winning in Washington, the first game of a daunting second-half schedule, do the Pittsburgh Steelers belong in the Super Bowl conversation? Yet this season he is on pace to produce marks in passer rating, air yards per attempt, yards per passing attempt, quarterback rating, passing yards and interceptions that are better than in either of his previous MVP campaigns, in 2019 and 2023. Goff has been a model of efficiency, completing 74.1% of his passes while posting career bests in yards per attempt and passer rating. While other NFC contenders have struggled, Detroit looks arguably better than a season ago. By rushing for a league-leading 946 yards on 6.5 yards per carry — an incredible 1.1 yards more per rush than he averaged in that historic 2020 season — he’s taken pressure off of Jackson. That not only explains the play, but what Daniels has brought to a Commanders team that won’t go away.

CNN —There was plenty for fans to get their teeth stuck into in Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season. They are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL after overcoming their recent rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, on Sunday. All-in-all, after seven weeks of the NFL season, the AFC is heating up with multiple potential superpowers really kicking into gear. And things went from bad to worse on Sunday when starting quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending injury. On Monday, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanksi confirmed that Watson had suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, ending the quarterback’s season.

Wilson found his rhythm as the game went on, showing great chemistry with George Pickens. Wilson and the Steelers capitalized on the miscue, when the QB hit Pickens for a touchdown to cap a four-play, 54-yard drive. CNN —Billie Eilish’s new song, “Lunch” is the definitive queer anthem of 2024. Eilish’s “Lunch” symbolizes the seismic evolution in queer women expression in music. Eilish’s “Lunch” is a brilliant reinvention of our freedom of queer expression, and it comes at a most desperate time. If only we tune into Eilish’s song and to its inherent humanity — carnal, raw, authentic — and recognize in it our own hidden desires that we should face with the same openness she does. What Eilish has achieved, though, with her latest album and particularly with the song, “Lunch,” is to raise the bar on the unabashed expression of queer and women’s sexual desire.

CNN —Lesbian Visibility Week, celebrated each year at the end of April, was first observed in California in 1990 and is marked around the world and in lesbian living rooms across America — including mine. Many laws have criminalized gay men but not women, leaving us in slightly safer territory. Gay men are also more likely to be victims of hate crimes and violence. Gay men might be criminalized, but gay women have long been targeted, sometimes in heinous ways that fly under the radar of the law, and which go unprosecuted. On this Lesbian Visibility Week, I am grateful both to be seen and to slip quietly under the radar, unnoticed.

He was a model to me of artistic labor and discipline, even if those early paintings were painfully amateurish. The painting followed me from Amherst to my first job in New York, and on to London and Delhi. IT WASN’T MY intention to start an essay about artistic beginnings with a story of artistic death.
