As of June 23, the U.S. Coast Guard said that the agency had not released any photos of the debris field.
A separate photo of a pair of shoes shared along with the fabricated images is years old and from the Titanic wreck site, not Titan debris, as explained in a previous Reuters fact check (here).
The fabricated debris images surfaced online after a robotic diving vehicle deployed from a Canadian ship discovered a debris field containing pieces of the submersible Titan on the seabed.
They were tweeted on June 22 along with the caption: “BREAKING: First look - Imploded Titan titanic submarine implosion debris field.”The user did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Images purporting to show the Titan submersible debris field are AI-generated.
