When discussing immigration, Harris took a shot at Trump's rallies, saying that people leave them early " out of exhaustion and boredom ." Trump responded with his own attack about Harris' rallies, but his demeanor also took a noticeable turn for the remainder of the debate. And while the two candidates basically don't agree on anything, Harris took one page out of Trump's book. The vice president had some noticeable facial expressions during the debate , something the former president has been known for. The Harris campaign said following the debate the vice president would participate in another one in October .

Read previewThis as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Mason Kuhr, a 25-year-old business owner living in the US, about the potential TikTok ban. I'm skeptical about a TikTok ban in the US. But if it were to happen, I estimate that my $3.8 million business would be cut by half. Last year, I made $3.8 million in sales, with a third from TikTokMy company's revenue is evenly split between TikTok Shop, Amazon, and Shopify store sales. If you're freaking out about the TikTok ban, I'd suggest you choose a back-up platform and start to make yourself familiar with its users.

The Great Concert Ticket Bust

There are a combination of factors that are dragging down some artists' ticket sales. Just having the big song doesn't necessarily always translate into ticket sales. But there are no guarantees that any of that will translate to hard ticket sales. "Just having the big song doesn't necessarily always translate into ticket sales." Hiccups are not all about ticket sales, either.

"I have friends that say that TikTok Shop has ruined the app," Casey Lewis, a trends researcher, said. "It can be good — especially as TikTok moves to TikTok Shop — if they're able to capitalize on this shift and sell products more effectively to older users." Just because something is going viral on TikTok doesn't necessarily mean Gen Z is behind it. The same could be said of Gen Z, which would explain the generations' shared fascination with a time before smartphones and round-the-clock news. The Gen Z users I spoke with didn't seem particularly concerned about an influx of olds.

Analysts at the World Advertising Research Center forecast Snap's ad revenue will grow by 13.7% to $5.2 billion this year, up from a 0.1% increase in 2023. The biggest year-over-year growth is set to come from political and advocacy advertisers in the US, ahead of the November presidential election, WARC said. Beyond the political ad boost, Snap's expected return to double-digit revenue growth will be driven by the platform leaning on artificial intelligence for ad optimization, an improved content experience, and user growth, according to WARC. To be sure, with US political ad spend forecast to exceed $12 billion in 2024, according to Emarketer, Snap will be a drop in the ocean for most political advertisers. Traditional media still takes the lion's share of political ad dollars.

He started making money on the app by offering fishing baits through TikTok Shop, selling around 92 strawberry- and sweet-corn-flavored "little bitz," for instance. "TikTok product violations are nearly enough to make me walk away," one merchant who sells children's products on TikTok Shop told BI. TikTok Shop officially launched in the US in September after months of testing and previous rollouts in other countries like the UK and Singapore. But lately, its AI detection system has run amok, Shop sellers told BI. Several TikTok Shop merchants told BI that it felt like submitting a ticket through the creator center felt like a dead end.

The pickle-wardrobe mania is emblematic of what sets TikTok Shop apart from e-commerce competitors like Shopify and Amazon. Just like TikTok's non-shopping content, TikTok Shop is built around viral videos, be it a surge in viewer interest in pickle-jar sweatshirts or a mad rush to buy freeze-dried Skittles . For UK sellers, chasing virality still seems to be the defining characteristic of the TikTok Shop experience. Jessica Slone runs TikTok shop Bad Addiction Boutique, which has sold tens of thousands of pickle-jar sweatshirts. "TikTok Shop is kind of this roller coaster, and right now it's on this amazing uphill journey.

That belief has taken him from famed ad agency Wieden + Kennedy to talent agency CAA, where he set up its first marketing consultancy. Montana is the first US state to ban TikTok, as US lawmakers discuss a federal ban. US lawmakers have been talking about a possible TikTok ban over its ties to China. Montana's law suggests a federal ban would be hard to enforce — and might not solve anything. Last week, Montana became the first US state to ban TikTok — and the rule's implementation could show just how hard it would be to enact a federal ban. Montana's TikTok ban is hard to enforce from a tech standpointWhile the ACLU and other civil rights groups are questioning the legality of Montana's TikTok ban, even if it did stand up to a court challenge, it's hard to actually enforce.

To see what could happen if the US were to ban TikTok, analysts say to look at India. Why did India ban TikTok? What happened when India banned TikTokIn the summer of 2020, India banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, WeChat, Weibo, and QQ, an instant-messaging service owned by the internet giant Tencent. While the situation wouldn't be exactly the same, the US might face these questions if it decides to ban TikTok. "So if that continues to deteriorate, I can't imagine that that that doesn't increase the odds of some sort of TikTok ban."
At the same time government bans on TikTok are raising questions about a full on ban for US consumers. Moorhead says TikTok will likely need to open up more scrutiny to avoid a total consumer ban. Logistically, to completely ban TikTok, the government needs to cite a specific law TikTok is breaking. That's what happened when India banned TikTok, citing a law that allowed India to block websites and apps "in the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, after a geopolitical dispute between India and China. Walling off data as a compromiseAnalysts said that one compromise could be stricter rules around how TikTok data in the US is shared and stored.
If you want to see fewer videos with a particular background sound, you can tell TikTok to block videos that use that sound. You'll see fewer videos with this sound, and you can repeat this process each time you hear the sound to block the sound more frequently. How to block a sound on TikTokWhen you encounter a video that has a sound you don't like and would like to block, do this:1. You can tell TikTok to show you fewer videos with a particular sound using the popup menu. Dave Johnson/InsiderWhile this informs TikTok that you want to see fewer videos with this sound, it doesn't immediately block all videos using this soundtrack.
Launched in May 2022, TikTok for Business Europe created an awards program to showcase the brands and agencies who were embracing the platform, and had incredible results to show for it. Together, these brands give a masterclass on what it takes to succeed on TikTok, showcasing campaign strategies and ad solutions that drive remarkable results. Videos were set up as In-Feed Ads on TikTok, geo-targeted specifically to 14 cities, inviting the TikTok community to visit them along the tour. In partnership with NewScreen, Back Market partnered with three TikTok creators who each leaned into a different environmental issue: water usage, CO2 consumption, and the use of raw materials. Unieuro perfectly showcased the power of creator-driven, native content and the impact of boosting creative as In-Feed Ads to maximize reach and engagement with the TikTok community.
Instagram still has double the usership of TikTok and TikTok's growth has slowed. "But then I realized they weren't using TikTok, they had discovered Instagram Reels." That said, Instagram Reels could be a gateway drug for younger users, who may find TikTok after experimenting with Reels. Without India, TikTok's download growth has slowed. TikTok, however, is still out-downloading Instagram, and people are spending more time on TikTok than on Instagram.
In a somber video, Zeglaitis shared his account of the evening and friendly text messages between him and Hannah. Another woman told Insider that she went to Zeglaitis' apartment in 2017 to film a clip for Dobrik's vlog. The two were fully clothed at the time, she said, standing just outside Zeglaitis' apartment in the hallway. They also said they were lured to Zeglaitis' apartment, which featured prominently in Dobrik's vlogs, by his social-media fame. I was just going along with what was happening," Jennifer told Insider.
