BEIJING, Nov 2 (Reuters) - The U.S. destroyer USS Rafael Peralta and a Royal Canadian Navy frigate HMCS Ottawa transited the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday, the U.S. 7th Fleet said in a statement, making their third joint transit in the region since June. Taiwan's defence ministry said the two warships sailed through the Taiwan Strait in a northerly direction on Wednesday night, adding it monitored the movement and the situation was "normal." The U.S. and Canadian navies made a similar transit in September. In June, the U.S. navy released a video of what it called an "unsafe interaction" in the Taiwan Strait in which a Chinese warship crossed in front of a U.S. destroyer. The U.S. destroyer USS Chung-Hoon and Canadian frigate Montreal were conducting a "routine" transit of the strait in June.

WASHINGTON, July 6 (Reuters) - A U.S. government watchdog will review Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) efforts to prevent airport runway incursions after a series of incidents where airplanes came dangerously close to each other. The U.S. Transportation Department Office of Inspector General (OIG) said it was opening its audit to assess FAA processes for analyzing data, identifying risks and preventing and mitigating runway incursions. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating six runway incursion events since January including some near catastrophes. In March, the FAA said it was taking steps to improve air traffic control, convening a safety summit and issuing a safety alert. In April, it named an independent safety review team and in June announced $100 million for 12 airports to make improvements to taxiways and lighting to reduce runway incursions.

The company has provided more than 132 gigawatts (GW) of wind turbines as of the end of April this year to all global regions: 108 GW of onshore wind and 22 GW of offshore wind. The discovery of faulty components at Siemens Gamesa's onshore wind turbines had already caused a charge of nearly half a billion euros in January. Siemens Gamesa has provided wind turbines to some of the biggest power companies and oil and gas majors worldwide. Shares in European wind turbine producers Nordex (NDXG.DE) and Vestas (VWS.CO) also fell as confidence in the industry was shaken. Many wind power developers have already seen delays in projects due to the availability of components and rising costs.

CNN —Novak Djokovic suffered a shock defeat in the Monte Carlo Masters round-of-16 Thurday with the Serb falling to a 4-6 7-5 6-4 loss at the hands of Italian 21-year-old Lorenzo Musetti. The Serb uncharacteristically allowed Musetti to trade breaks with him throughout the opening set, before eventually seizing control. However, Musetti had other ideas and battled his way back into the game to level the tie. The shock defeat will be a cause for concern for two-time Monte Carlo Masters champion Djokovic as this is one of his key events in his preparation for the French Open. Like Musetti, Sinner also had to win from behind to secure his place in the quarterfinal.

London CNN —Wimbledon will relax its white clothing rule to allow women players to wear dark-colored undershorts if they want to, organizers announced Thurday. “I’m pleased to confirm that, following consultation with players and representatives of several stakeholder groups, the Committee of Management has taken the decision to update the white clothing rule at Wimbledon. Clive Brunskill/Getty ImagesUntil Thursday’s announcement, Wimbledon still employed a rigid all-white dress code, which was first implemented to camouflage sweat stains. And in a recent interview with CNN’s Amanda Davies, tennis great Billie Jean King explained that the dress code had caused anxiety for her and her fellow competitors. King also pointed out that the all-white dress code makes it difficult for fans trying to distinguish between players on the court.
