The New York City-based dessert maker is transforming some of its famous treats into THC-infused edibles, including its banana pudding and red velvet cake. The limited-edition bars, which mark Magnolia’s first-ever cannabis product, “celebrate the brand’s most iconic, fan-favorite flavors in a new light,” the bakery said. That has created consumer interest in weed, including edibles, with the stigma of buying the drug dissipating. Perhaps once known for being just “pot brownies,” the edible market has blossomed into several categories and hundreds of brands, including gummies, mints and candy bars. “There is no real downside to Magnolia, as consumer opinions on cannabis are now relativity liberal,” he told CNN.

The AdvisorShares Pure US Cannabis ETF (MSOS) has jumped 18% in the first four trading days of the month, building on a rally that began in late August. Smaller funds such as the Roundhill Cannabis ETF (WEED) and the ETFMG U.S. MSOS 1M mountain Weed stocks are surging in September, as shown by the MSOS ETF. The struggles for marijuana ETFs have extended beyond price movements, as cannabis remains illegal at the federal level.

NEW YORK, Jan 4 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Starbucks (SBUX.O) will have a workforce that will grow increasingly restless in 2023. Starbucks’ employees started organizing in 2021 in Buffalo, New York, and by late 2022, workers at more than 250 stores, or 2% of U.S. locations, had voted to join a union. At the same time, Starbucks is moving quickly to automate, which will continue into 2023 under incoming CEO Laxman Narasimhan. Even some Starbucks unions might not survive as the company closes stores and drags out negotiations. The coffee company may be getting the heat, but it will only motivate it to go grande on an employee-light future.

Cantor Fitzgerald's Pablo Zuanic says a cannabis banking bill may pass before the end of the year. Passage of the SAFE Banking Act would give cannabis stocks a much-needed boost. A long-awaited cannabis-banking bill may pass in the lame-duck session of Congress this year, a top Wall Street analyst says. The bipartisan SAFE Banking Act is a narrow cannabis reform bill that would allow companies that sell or cultivate THC to access the banking system. Cory Booker and Ron Wyden, have previously opposed the SAFE Act proceeding ahead of more comprehensive, criminal-justice-focused cannabis reform.
In the Empire State, recreational marijuana sales could balloon to $7 billion once the market is fully established. The state's limited medical cannabis program has also seen expansion under the new adult-use bill. The list of qualifying medical conditions for medical cannabis was expanded, along with product options. The exceptions to this may be existing medical operators wishing to transition to adult-use and microbusinesses. Analysts say this makes sense as the industry matures and cannabis companies begin to think of themselves as consumer product companies.

During Green Thumb Industries' investor call on Wednesday evening, the hedge-fund billionaire Leon Cooperman ripped into the Chicago cannabis giant's CEO, Ben Kovler, over what Cooperman said was rampant insider selling by the company's executives. Despite mixed results in the quarter, analysts are optimistic about Green Thumb Industries' long-term growth prospects.
